Marist Red Foxes Betting Preview

The Red Foxes have been on a great run so far this year, and they’re yet to lose consecutive games. Marist kicked off with a 4-2 stretch that featured wins over Richmond, Army, Dartmouth, and New Hampshire. A win streak ensued over Mount St. Mary’s, Manhattan, Stony Brook, UMBC, Binghamton, Iona, Quinnipiac, Fairfield, and Saint Peter’s, then a loss to Rider on January 18. Since then the Foxes have taken out Niagara, Canisius, and Siena in succession, giving the team a 16-3 overall run through the first 19 games of the 2024-25 season.

In the Siena game last Friday, the Foxes entered the second half sporting a 33-26 edge. Marist was outscored 41-39 the rest of the way but held on for the win 72-67 in the end. Elijah Lewis was the team’s leading scorer with 19 points eight rebounds and three assists. Josh Pascarelli added 16 points with three assists and one rebound, while Jaden Daughtry doubled up on 13 points with 10 boards, two assists, and two steals.

Fairfield Stags Betting Preview

Over on the Stags’ side, they’ve had a couple of pretty good runs this year but overall it’s been a struggle. Fairfield kicked off with a 5-4 stretch that featured wins over New Hampshire, John Jay College, Vermont, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Rider, then hit a losing streak versus Mount St. Mary’s, Central Connecticut, Monmouth, Columbia, and Merrimack. A 3-2 run was next featuring losses to Marist and Canisius among wins over Iona, Niagara, and Manhattan. Since then it’s been three straight losses for the Stags, as they’ve dropped to Merrimack, Quinnipiac, and Iona for an 8-14 overall run through 22 games so far.

Matched up against the Gaels in their Sunday game, the Stags were outpaced 48-32 in the first half. Fairfield didn’t end up getting any closer on a 39-32 run from there and lost 87-64 in blowout fashion. Deon Perry posted 20 points with two rebounds, two steals, and four assists to lead the team off the bench. Tops among starters was Peyton Smith with 14 points, three boards, and two blocks in 26 minutes of work on the court.

Why the Fairfield Stags will win

  • Fairfield has won seven of its last eight games at Leo D. Mahoney Arena following a road loss.
  • Fairfield has won the first half in four of its last five night games against Conference opponents at Leo D. Mahoney Arena.

Why the Marist Red Foxes will win

  • Marist has won 12 of its last 13 games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • Fairfield has lost four of its last five games.

Marist vs Fairfield Prediction

I’ll stay with the Foxes here. Marist put away a middling Siena team in their last outing thanks to 45.2 percent shooting and a solid 40-30 rebounding advantage. The Foxes posted just seven turnovers in the win but also missed five of their 13 free throws (61.5 percent) along the way. Following five straight games with fewer than 70 points scored, Marist has now hit 70 or more in consecutive outings.

These teams last met up back on January 12 in a home win 61-51 for the Foxes. In that one Marist shot 50 percent from the field with a 33-26 rebounding edge while holding the Stags to just 36.5 percent shooting on the other side. The 3-point rate (22.2 percent on 4-of-18) wasn’t great, but that was the only major blemish. I’d like to see the Foxes score a little better in the road rematch, but they should be in firm control here all things considered.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Marist Red Foxes -5
