Lafayette Leopards Betting Preview

The Leopards have a couple of decent runs this year but overall they’re struggling. Lafayette opened up the season on a middling 5-5 run over their first 10 outings, then fell to George Washington, Portland, Stonehill, Navy and Bucknell (with a lone win over Boston U) in the next six games. The Leopards would go 4-5 in the next nine with wins over Holy Cross, Loyola MD, Colgate and Navy among losses to Army, Colgate, Lehigh, American and Loyola MD. Since then it’s been losses to American, Bucknell and Holy Cross before wins over Lehigh and Army. That gives the Leopards a 12-18 overall run through 30 games this year. 

In the Army home rematch on Tuesday, the Leopards posted a comfortable 38-26 lead by halftime. Lafayette hit a 43-39 run the rest of the way and ended up with a win 81-65 in the end. Alex Chaikin led the team on 27 points with three rebounds, while Justin Vander Baan had 11 points with 11 rebounds, seven assists and four blocks for a double-double. Andrew Phillips added 14 points with eight rebounds and Caleb Williams chipped in 13 points in the win. 

Boston University Terriers Betting Preview

Over on the Boston U side, they’ve had an up-and-down season resulting in a .500 run so far. The Terriers also managed a 5-5 start through their first 10 outings this year, then went 4-6 over the next 10 with wins over Maine, Army, American and Lehigh among losses to Merrimack, UMass Lowell, Lafayette, Colgate, Army and Navy. Since then it’s been a 6-4 stretch for the Terriers with losses to Loyola MD, Holy Cross, Bucknell and American among wins versus Bucknell, Holy Cross, Navy, Colgate, Loyola MD and Lehigh. In total across 30 games so far that gives Boston U an overall record of 15-15. 

Matched up against Lehigh on the road Wednesday, the Terriers kicked things off with a 36-28 opening run in the first half. Boston U hit a 43-40 second half and took the eventual win in the end 79-68. Tops in scoring was Kyrone Alexander with 21 points, 10 rebounds and four steals for a double-double. Miles Brewster added 14 points with six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Malcolm Chimezie had 13 points with five boards in 22 minutes of work.

Lafayette vs Boston University Prediction 

I’ll try Boston in this one. The Terriers didn’t have too much trouble vs a struggling Lehigh team in their last outing, shooting 44.4 percent from the field with a 39-20 rebounding edge. Boston wasn’t spectacular from 3-point range (4-of-15 for 26.7 percent) and had 10 turnovers along the way, however. Still, that makes three wins in the last four games for the Terriers, and they’re in a good position to finish the season with a winning record. 

Revenge will be in play for Boston here, as they lost a rough one 60-46 on the road the last time these teams met up back on January 2. Neither team shot well in that one (both below 33 percent) so we’ll likely see some improvement on the scoreboard for both sides on Saturday.
