Florida A&M Rattlers Betting Preview

The Rattlers got off to a pretty miserable start, but they’ve done much better since mid-January. Florida A&M lost to TCU, SMU, Maryland, Florida, Clemson, Utah, BYU, Tarleton State, Bethune-Cookman, Southern, and Grambling in their first 14 games. The Rattlers lost just one of the next 10 outings (versus Alabama State) though, otherwise beating AR-Pine Bluff, MS Valley State, Alcorn State, Jackson State, Alabama A&M, Texas Southern, Prairie View, Jackson State, and Alcorn State for a 12-12 run through their first 24 games of the year. 

In their Saturday game versus Alabama State, the Rattlers held the pace on a 23-23 first half but ultimately lost a close one on the road 60-59. Leading the team in scoring was Sterling Young, who provided 23 points with three rebounds, one assist, and one steal off the bench. Roderick Coffee put up 13 points with eight rebounds, four assists, and three blocks as well. 

Alabama A&M Bulldogs Betting Preview

Over on the Alabama A&M side, they’ve struggled this year outside of a few brief runs. The Bulldogs went just 4-9 in their first 13 games, taking wins over only Oakwood, Arkansas Baptist, Fisk, and Coastal Carolina. Following wins over AR-Pine Bluff and MS Valley State, Alabama A&M lost to Alcorn State, Jackson State, Alabama State, and Texas Southern before a win over Prairie View. Losses to Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman, Southern, and Grambling came next, then wins over MS Valley State and AR-Pine Bluff. The result through the first 26 games of the year was a 9-17 overall record for the Bulldogs. 

Matched up against Bethune-Cookman over the weekend, the Bulldogs were down by two points heading into the second half. Alabama A&M didn’t get any closer on a 31-29 run and lost the game in the end 68-64. The team’s only double-digit scorer was AC Bryant with 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

I’ll stay with the Rattlers in this one. Florida A&M shot pretty well from the field (44.9 percent) but not from outside (21.1 percent) or the line (61.1 percent) in their latest loss to Alabama State. The Rattlers were competitive in rebounding and on defense but gave the game away with 15 turnovers for 16 Hornets points. The 59 points were Florida A&M’s lowest total since posting 57 in a blowout loss to Southern back on January 11. 

These teams last met up back on February 1 in a 95-79 home win for Florida A&M. The Rattlers shot quite well in that one, posting 52.6 percent from the field, 50 percent (14-of-28) from outside, and 80 percent (21-of-26) from the line. Florida A&M got out-rebounded 37-33 but also scored 20 points off 12 Bulldogs turnovers. Alabama A&M should play well in the rematch on Monday, but I like the Rattlers to pull off the cover in the end.
