Fairfield Stags Betting Preview
The Stags have been on a couple of good runs this year but overall it’s been a struggle in the win column. Fairfield kicked things off with a 5-4 stretch, then lost to Mount St. Mary’s, Central Connecticut, Monmouth, Columbia, Merrimack, Marist, and Canisius in the next 10 outings. The Stags have won just four games since then, taking out Marist, Rider, Mount St. Mary’s, and Quinnipiac. Otherwise, it’s been losses to Merrimack, Quinnipiac, Iona, Sacred Heart, Saint Peter’s, Manhattan, Sacred Heart, and Siena in that time. Overall that gives Fairfield a 12-19 record across 31 games this season so far.
In the Quinnipiac home matchup over the weekend, the Stags came out of the break looking up at a 37-37 tie on the scoreboard. Fairfield powered out a 46-37 run the rest of the way and ended up winning by nine 83-74 in the end. Topping the scorers in the win was Prophet Johnson with 35 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and three steals in 34 minutes out on the floor. The only other team player to finish in double-figures was Braden Sparks, who notched 16 points with four rebounds, four steals and three assists in 30 minutes of action.
Sacred Heart Pioneers Betting Preview
Over on the Sacred Heart side, they weren’t looking so good in mid-January but since then things have gotten better record-wise. The Pioneers limped to a 6-12 run over their first 18 games though, winning versus only New Hampshire, Central Connecticut, Boston U, Iona, Manhattanville, and Canisius in that time. Sacred Heart has since gone 8-5 in the last 13 games with losses to Quinnipiac, Siena, Saint Peter’s, Manhattan, and Iona. The wins otherwise were over Canisius, Niagara, Manhattan, Rider, Fairfield, Merrimack, Marist, and Fairfield again. That gives the Pioneers a 14-17 record across 31 games this year.
In the Iona road matchup over the weekend, the Pioneers were up by one point heading into the second half but eventually took the loss 90-88. Leading the team in scoring during the defeat was Tanner Thomas with 20 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
Matchup/League Facts

- Sacred Heart ranks 40th among Division 1 teams for field goal attempts per game this season (61.8).
Fairfield vs Sacred Heart Prediction
I’ll lean toward Sacred Heart. If you’re a fan of either one of these teams, this should be an intriguing and potentially competitive matchup. If not, this game’s probably not on your radar. That said, it should be a fun one to check out. The Pioneers didn’t play terribly versus Iona in their latest loss, but there were a few key stats that brought the team down—namely the six of 16 missed free throws (62.5 percent), the 39-30 rebounding deficit, and the 16 turnovers for 18 Gaels points. Sacred Heart has given up 90 points in consecutive road losses over their last pair.
The good news is that the Pioneers won both games between these teams this year: 77-71 (road) and 83-62 (home). Fairfield had been below 70 points in six straight games before hanging 83 on Quinnipiac, but if the Stags get going it could be trouble for the Pioneers. In the end, though, I like Sacred Heart to power it out.
