The Bruins would lose to Indiana State and Southern Illinois in the next trio, but then beat Northern Iowa, Drake, Valparaiso, Southern Illinois, Illinois State, Valparaiso and Murray State. Belmont is currently 20-3 in their first 23 outings.

Matched up against Murray State over the weekend the Bruins were sitting in the locker room with a 54-40 advantage. Belmont kept in front during the second half on a 49-46 stretch and took the eventual victory in the end 103-86. Tyler Lundblade was the leading team scorer with his 27 points and Drew Scharnowski had 19 points with 11 rebounds and nine assists along the way.

I’ll stick with Belmont. The Bruins didn’t have too much trouble in a home win over a pretty good Murray State team this past weekend. Belmont shot an excellent 56.1 percent from the field and 50 percent (12-of-24) from outside in that one alongside 25 team assists. The Bruins did get beat slightly on rebounds (30-28) and points in the paint (46-44) though. Still, Belmont is on a tear right now with seven straight wins and 73 or more points in all of those.

These teams last saw each other in a tight 78-76 road win for the Bruins back on January 10. Belmont didn’t shoot well in that one (38.1 percent) and had 13 turnovers but made up for it with nice performances on the boards (a 39-29 edge) and in the paint (a 26-12 edge). This home rematch should be a comfortable environment for Belmont to power out a cover and keep their run going.
