The next eight outings were a 6-2 run with losses to Norfolk State and South Carolina State among wins over Virginia-Lynchburg, MD Eastern Shore, Coppin State, Morgan State, Howard, and NC Central. That would give the Hornets a 14-12 record across 26 games. 

In their Saturday outing at home versus Coppin State, the Hornets were up 39-31 going into the second half. Delaware State hit a 48-44 deficit from there but held on for the win in the end 83-79. Martaz Robinson was the team’s leading scorer, notching 26 points with three rebounds, one assist, and six steals. Robert Smith put up 20 points with two assists and two steals in 33 minutes, and Kaseem Watson had 12 points with six boards and two steals. 

Morgan State Bears Betting Preview

Over on the Morgan State side, they’ve been unable to keep their heads above .500 so far this season. The Bears posted a spotty 6-8 run over their first 14 outings, then took losses to Iowa State, Minnesota, South Carolina State, and Howard (with a win over NC Central) in the next five games. After wins versus Norfolk State, Coppin State and MD Eastern Shore came a 1-4 run with a lone win over NC Central. Otherwise, it was losses to Delaware State, South Carolina State, Howard, and Norfolk State in that time, giving the Bears an 11-16 record across the first 27 games of the 2024-25 campaign.

I’ll lean toward Delaware State here, but you could make a case either way. The Hornets played pretty well overall versus a struggling Coppin State team in their latest win, but they did give up 57.1 percent shooting to the Eagles. Delaware State shot a nice 53.3 percent from the field themselves and had 15 turnovers for 20 Coppin State points during a sloppy overall game (34 total turnovers). Still, Delaware State has scored 83 or more points in eight of the last nine games, winning seven of those. 

Back on February 3 when these teams last met, Delaware State eked out an 84-82 win at home. The Hornets didn’t shoot well from the field (38.6 percent) or the line (15-of-23 for 65.2 percent) in that one, but did have a 54-47 rebounding edge and scored 15 points off 12 Morgan State turnovers. Delaware State simply has to shoot better this time, as they won’t be able to rely on mistakes so heavily in the road rematch.
