Colgate Raiders Betting Preview
The Raiders opened up the season on a very rough run, but since then they’ve played better. Colgate lost nine of their first 11 outings versus Drexel, Syracuse, NC State, Harvard, Appalachian State, Sam Houston, Cornell, Northeastern, and Kentucky. A 2-2 stretch came next with wins over Vermont and Army among losses to Iona and Bucknell. After five straight wins over Lehigh, Boston University, Navy, Lafayette, and Bucknell, Colgate fell to American U and Army in the next pair, giving the Raiders a 9-13 overall run through the first 22 games.Â
Matched up against Lafayette on Saturday, the Raiders were in trouble after one half and trailed 46-27. Colgate got better from there on a 34-30 run but it wasn’t nearly enough in a 76-61 loss. The only starter in double-figures was Jeff Woodward with 11 points, five boards, and three assists. Josh Ahayere added 11 points with three rebounds off the bench as well.Â
Lehigh Mountain Hawks Betting Preview
Over on the Lehigh side, they’ve got one solid run stretching from late November into January but aside from that it’s been a struggle this year. The Mountain Hawks lost to Northwestern, Georgetown, Columbia, UCLA, and St. Francis PA in their first six games. A 5-1 stretch came next with wins over Marist, Monmouth, Long Island U, Neumann, and Bucknell, then losses to Loyola Maryland, Colgate, Army, Boston U, Loyola MD again and American. The Hawks would beat Lafayette and then fall to Navy, resulting in a 7-13 overall run through the opening 20 games.Â
In their Saturday game versus Holy Cross, the Mountain Hawks were up 40-35 in the locker room. Lehigh stumbled a bit in the second half on a 32-29 deficit but still held on for the win 69-67 in the end. Cam Gillus led the team with 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Tyler Whitney-Sidney had 16 points as well, alongside two boards in 32 minutes.Â

Colgate vs Lehigh PredictionÂ
I’ll lean toward Colgate. The Raiders didn’t play all that well versus Lafayette on Saturday though, so they’ll need to prove themselves again here. Colgate didn’t shoot terribly (42.9 percent) in their loss to the Leopards, and they won the rebounding battle 34-29 as well. The major issue, however, was the Raiders’ 15 turnovers for 15 Lafayette points. That makes three straight losses for Colgate, and their lowest points total since January 5 (60 in a road loss to Bucknell). The Raiders have been giving up quite a bit on the other side lately as well. They’ve surrendered 76 or more in four straight games, and 80 or more in three of those.Â
These teams last saw each other back on January 8 in a 67-62 home win for the Raiders. In that matchup Colgate shot decently from the field (43.9 percent), not so great from 3-point range (23.8 percent on 5-of-21) and excellent from the line (12-of-13 for 92.3 percent). the 43-32 rebounding edge helped immensely, but the Raiders nearly shot themselves in the foot with 14 turnovers for 18 Hawks points. Colgate really needs to monitor the ball control this time, but I still like them on a potential cover.Â
