Chattanooga Mocs Betting Preview
The Mocs ended up with a pretty good overall run last season, even though they failed to take the conference tourney. Chattanooga went 29-9 overall with a 15-3 run in the Southern Conference. That finish would put the Mocs atop the standings as regular-season champs, ahead of UNC Greensboro by two games. In the conference tournament, Chattanooga beat Mercer before a loss to Furman, then got a selection to the NIT. The Mocs rolled through that tournament, eventually beating UC Irvine in overtime for the championship.
This year the Mocs kicked off their season with a routine matchup versus Union KY. Chattanooga posted a 46-11 advantage in the first half, then hit a 46-28 run from there in a 92-39 win. Tops in scoring was Tate Darner with 15 points and seven boards. Jikari Johnson added 14 points with seven rebounds, and both Brennan Watkins and Jordan Frison chipped in 10 points apiece.
St. Mary’s Gaels Betting Preview
Over on the St. Mary’s side, they also looked pretty good last year. The Gaels rolled to a 29-6 overall record with a very nice 17-1 stretch in the West Coast Conference. That finish put Saint Mary’s atop the conference standings, beating Gonzaga by three games. In the WCC Tournament, the Gaels beat Pepperdine before a loss to the Bulldogs, but still got a selection in the NCAA Tournament. Saint Mary’s took out Vanderbilt in the First Round ahead of a loss to Alabama in game two, ending their season on March 23.
Saint Mary’s also had a pretty manageable game in their opener this week. The Gaels played St. Thomas MN and had a 10-point lead by the break. St. Mary’s hit a 49-33 run the rest of the way in an 84-58 victory. Leading the scoring in the win was Mikey Lewis with 23 points and three boards, while Joshua Dent had 18 points with six assists and three boards. Andrew McKeever led the rebounding with 10 alongside his four points in 19 minutes of action.

Chattanooga vs Saint Mary’s Prediction
I’ll try Saint Mary’s in this one. Both teams are coming off fairly easy openers, and this matchup will give us a better gauge on each squad. The Gaels got minutes for a lot of players in the win over St. Thomas MN, eventually shooting 50.9 percent from the field and 42.3 percent (11-of-26) from 3-point range. Saint Mary’s owned the boards 40-21 but did get outscored in the paint 38-32 and had 11 turnovers. There are a few things to clean up, but overall it was a pretty routine win to open up the season. Friday’s game will obviously be a lot harder.
As for the Mocs, they rolled right past an overmatched Union KY squad with 43.6 percent shooting and a 49-33 advantage on the boards. Chattanooga had things in cruise control early on in that matchup however, so we’ll get to see the major players a lot more on Friday. In the end I like the Gaels to cover but it’ll be a fun one to watch.
