The Charleston Southern Buccaneers come into this game looking to start year two of the Saah Nimley era on a different foot after their 10-22 mark in 2024-25, including a 6-10 mark in Big South conference play. The Buccaneers would be bounced from the Big South tournament early with an 80-60 loss at the hands of UNC Asheville to end their season. The good news for Charleston Southern is that they bring back 14.2 PPG with A’lahn Sumler from last year’s team. Jaquias Franklin had 15.4 PPG at the NAIA level last year and Luke Williams and Trent Coleman each transfer in from D-II to try to give the Bucs some depth but it’ll be interesting to see if the talent transfers to the D-I level. Only time will tell if year two under Nimley will provide any improvement or if it’s another disappointing season at Charleston Southern.

Virginia Tech Hokies Recap

The Virginia Tech Hokies come into the 2025-26 season looking to shake off a frustrating 13-19 mark in 2024-25, including an 8-12 mark in ACC conference play. The Hokies took a quick exit in the ACC tournament, falling 82-73 to Cal in double OT in the first round. Toibu Lawal is back for the Hokies after logging 12.4 PPG while Izaiah Pasha transfers in from Delaware after logging 11.9 PPG, 4.2 RPG and 3.9 APG. Jailen Bedford added 10.2 PPG with 4.3 RPG as well for UNLV last season and Amani Hansberry transfers in from West Virginia after putting up 9.8 PPG and 6.5 RPG. This is going to be interesting to see if Virginia Tech can rebound or if we’re headed in for another disappointing campaign in Blacksburg.

I’m on the Hokies here. It’s not a game I’m rushing to bet because I have my fair share of concerns about the Hokies, but it’s more about fading Charleston Southern as this Buccaneers team has not been very good in all honesty and after so many moving pieces, it’s hard to gauge if they’re going to work out of the gate or not. Virginia Tech at least has some continuity and I feel their transfers in this matchup are a lot more proven side-by-side. Give me Virginia Tech.
