We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Campbell vs Monmouth pick. We will examine the recent form and player performances for both teams, as well as the recent betting trends and streaks pertaining to this matchup. As we conclude, we will tie it all together with a summary that produces a sensible pick for a favorable betting outcome in this game.
Campbell Fighting Camels Betting Preview
The Camels were hovering just one game over the .500 mark at 9-8 back in early January, then hit a five-game losing skid that put the team at 9-13. Victories versus William & Mary, Drexel, North Carolina A&T and William & Mary again came in the ensuing five outings, then losses to UNC Wilmington, Drexel and Towson. After that came wins over North Carolina A&T, Stony Brook and UNC Wilmington.
On Sunday versus UNC Wilmington, the Camels were down 33-31 going into the second half. Campbell woke up after the break however, hitting a 54-37 run the rest of the way and powering out the victory in the end 85-70. Leading the team in scoring was DJ Smith with 20 points, three assists and two rebounds. Dovydas Butka added 14 points with eight rebounds and four assists while Jeremiah Johnson had 17 points.
Monmouth Hawks Betting Preview
Over on the Hawks’ side, they were sitting at a pretty ugly 9-11 through their first 20 games this year. Monmouth won five of the next six over Campbell, North Carolina A&T, Stony Brook, Drexel and Towson, then fell to UNC Wilmington and Charleston. Since then it’s been wins over Stony Brook, Elon, Northeastern and Drexel in the last four outings for an 18-14 record this year.
In the Sunday tournament game versus Drexel, the Hawks were down by a point 33-32 going into the second half. Monmouth hit a 33-24 run the rest of the way however, eventually powering out the victory 65-57. Stefanos Spartalis (six rebounds; three assists) and Jason Rivera-Torres (eight rebounds; three steals; two assists) each had a team-high 14 points in the win.
Campbell vs Monmouth Prediction
I’ll lean toward Campbell. The Camels had a great second half on Sunday versus UNC Wilmington, eventually shooting a solid 45.6 percent from the field with 83.9 percent (26-of-31) at the line and just eight turnovers. Campbell did get outmuscled on the boards 38-31 but made up for it with only 38.8 percent shooting allowed on defense. The Camels have won there straight, scoring 85 or more points in each of those victories.
These teams split the season series this year, with Monmouth losing 68-65 at home on New Year’s Eve then taking a win 88-73 on the road in the January 24 rematch. In that road victory the Camels didn’t shoot well with 39.3 percent from the field and 58.2 percent surrendered on defense. The Camels were also out-rebounded 42-24 and outscored in the paint 48-32. Campbell really needs a good bounce-back effort in this tournament matchup and I think they’ll get it.
