California Golden Bears Betting Preview
The Bears managed to win 13 of their first 18 games this season, then hit a 4-1 run over the next five games. Those victories came courtesy of North Carolina, Stanford, Miami and Georgia Tech. Since then it’s been a 3-3 run with losses to Clemson, Syracuse and Pittsburgh mixed with wins over Boston College, Stanford and SMU. That makes for a 20-9 overall record this year.
In the Pitt matchup over the weekend the Golden Bears entered the second half looking up at a 34-26 deficit on the scoreboard. California was outscored 38-30 the rest of the way and ended up falling on their home court by a margin of 72-56 as the game concluded. Dai Dai Ames led the team on 11 points with two rebounds while Lee Dort added 10 points with six boards.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Betting Preview
Over on the Georgia Tech side, they weren’t looking too badly over the first 13 games with a 9-4 overall record. The Jackets lost four of the next six with wins over only Boston College and NC State, then fell to Clemson, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Cal, Stanford, Wake Forest, Notre Dame, Virginia, Louisville and Florida State. In 29 games so far that gives the Yellow Jackets an 11-18 record.
In the Florida State matchup over the weekend the Yellow Jackets were trailing 41-36 as they entered the second half. Georgia Tech was outscored 39-35 the rest of the way, so they didn’t end up getting any closer in an 80-71 defeat. California vs Georgia Tech Prediction
I’ll lean toward Cal. The Golden Bears shot 42.6 percent from the field with a 30-26 rebounding deficit and 14 turnovers in their last loss at home versus Pitt. California gave up 46.4 percent shooting on defense and shot just 22.7 percent (5-of-22) from outside. The Golden Bears are still 3-1 in their last four games though, scoring 72 or more points in each of the three victories.
Back on February 4 when these teams last met up the Bears managed to power out a 90-85 victory at home. In that game California managed to shoot 46.3 percent from the field with a nice 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from outside. The Bears added a 36-33 rebounding advantage but also had 14 turnovers and gave up 47.9 percent shooting on defense. This rematch should be a fairly close game as well, and you could argue it either way.
