Binghamton Bearcats Betting Preview

The Bearcats had a good run going in December, but otherwise, it’s been a pretty tough year for them so far. Binghamton opened up the season on a 2-6 stretch through eight games, beating only SUNY-Oneonta and Misericordia alongside losses to Penn State, Miami, Fordham, Longwood, Central Connecticut, and Niagara. A winning streak ensued after that with victories over Long Island University, Lafayette, Le Moyne, Lancaster Bible College, Mercyhurst, and Army over the next six games. Since then it’s been a tough 1-3 run with a lone win over UMBC alongside losses to Marist, Maine, and New Hampshire for a 9-9 overall record so far this year.

In the New Hampshire game on Saturday, the Bearcats came out of the break looking up at a 42-37 advantage on the scoreboard. Binghamton was blitzed in the second half 42-30 however and ended up falling 79-72 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Tymu Chenery with 18 points, six assists, and three rebounds with a pair of blocks. Gavin Walsh added 17 points with 14 rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block. Nehemiah Benson finished on 14 points with five boards, one assist, one steal, and one turnover in 23 minutes of work as well.

Vermont Catamounts Betting Preview

Over on the Vermont side, they’ve got a couple of good runs in the books so far this year but otherwise, it’s been a struggle for them as well. The Catamounts opened on a 1-3 run with a win over UAB prior to losses to Auburn, Merrimack, and Iona. Following a 4-1 stretch with a loss to Fairfield in the middle of wins over Buffalo, Delaware, Plattsburgh State, and Northeastern, the Catamounts put up a 1-4 run with a win over Miami-OH among losses to Brown, Yale, Colgate, and Dartmouth. Vermont put up wins over Elms College, New Hampshire, and UMass Lowell before another loss to Bryant, giving them a .500 record through 18 games this year as well.

Over the weekend in the Bryant matchup, the Catamounts held a 37-30 deficit by halftime. Vermont didn’t end up getting any closer than that, eventually falling 73-53 after a 36-23 second half. Leading the team in scoring was Shamir Bogues with 17 points, six boards and two assists alongside a pair of blocks. Ileri Ayo-Faleye added 15 points with four rebounds, while Sam Alamutu had 11 boards, four points, and three assists in 26 minutes of work.

Why the Vermont Catamounts will win

  • Vermont has won each of its last 34 games against the America East Conference at Roy L. Patrick Gymnasium.
  • Binghamton has lost five of its last six road night games against Conference opponents.
  • Binghamton has lost the first half in 33 of its last 43 road night games against Conference opponents.

Why the Binghamton Bearcats will win

  • Vermont has lost the first half in three of its last four games against Conference opponents.

Binghamton vs Vermont Prediction

I’ll try Vermont here, but I’m probably not touching this one. There’s not a lot of intrigue involved here, but it should at least be a competitive matchup. The Catamounts were demolished by a middling Bryant team in their last outing, thanks mostly to sloppy play. Vermont posted a whopping 17 turnovers for 22 Bulldogs points in the defeat. That makes fewer than 68 points in three straight games for the Catamounts, who aren’t exactly the highest-scoring team in the world this year.

That said, Vermont probably won’t match up too badly with Binghamton. The Bearcats have scored 71 or more points in three straight, but they’ve also given up 79 or more in three straight. If Vermont can keep a handle on the turnover of butterfingers, they should be okay.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Vermont Catamounts -10
