Toledo Rockets Betting Preview
The Rockets had a couple of rough stretches during the regular season which prevented them from having a much better record overall. Toledo went just 6-6 in their first dozen, then beat Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Ball State over the next six. A win streak over Bowling Green, Ohio, Northern Illinois, Buffalo and James Madison came next, then a 1-6 run that featured a win over Ball State among losses to Miami OH, Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, Kent State, Buffalo and Akron. Toledo has since beaten Ohio in consecutive games, giving the Rockets an 18-14 overall run so far this year through 32 games.
On Thursday versus Ohio in the tournament game, the Rockets gave up a four-point halftime lead and needed overtime to power out the win 90-85. Tops in scoring was Sam Lewis with 21 points, three rebounds, three steals and four blocks in the victory.

Akron Zips Betting Preview
Over on the Akron side, they’ve really only had one sketchy (and brief) run this year. Otherwise it’s been fairly smooth sailing. After a 6-2 start, the Zips lost to Milwaukee, Yale and Princeton in a four-game span during late December. The Zips would rattle off wins over Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Ohio, Buffalo, Miami OH, Northern Illinois, Kent State, Ball State, South Alabama, Western Michigan, Central Michigan and Northern Illinois before another loss to Ohio. Since then it’s been wins over Ball State, Kent State, Toledo, Buffalo and Bowling Green, giving Akron a 26-6 overall run across 32 games so far.
Matched up against Bowling Green on Thursday, the Zips went into the second half with a 12-point edge. Akron posted a 54-37 run the rest of the way during a nice win 96-67. Tops in scoring was Bowen Hardman with 17 points and two rebounds in 22 minutes of work off the bench. Seth Wilson added 15 points, two assists and two steals in the win, while Tavari Johnson had 14 points with seven assists and two steals in 24 minutes of work.
Toledo vs Akron Prediction
I’ll stay with Akron. The Zips didn’t have much issue at all versus Bowling Green on Thursday, notching 49.3 percent from the field with 16-of-39 (41 percent) from outside and 12-of-15 (80 percent) from the line alongside 21 team assists and just nine turnovers. Akron gave up just 41.7 percent on the other side while scoring a whopping 32 points off 22 Falcons turnovers. That gives the Zips five straight wins, with 77 or more points in all five and 87 or more in four of those outings.
These teams have met twice before with Akron getting the win each time: 85-78 (home) on January 14 and 96-87 (road) on March 4. In that latest matchup both teams shot very well (above 52 percent) but Akron had a nice 13-of-24 (54.2 percent) from 3-point range and 86.4 percent (19-of-22) from the line. The only real blemish was the 18 turnovers for 28 Rockets points. Akron needs to watch the ball control this time, but they should be okay if all goes well.
Andrew’s Pick Akron Zips -8.5
