Vermont Catamounts Betting Preview
The Catamounts didn’t start out the year so well, but they’ve looked much better since the calendar flipped over to 2025. Vermont hit a middling 6-8 run over their first 14 games though, falling to Auburn, Merrimack, Iona, Fairfield, Brown, Yale, Colgate, and Dartmouth. There have been only three losses to Bryant, UMBC, and Binghamton since then. Otherwise, it’s been wins over Elms College, New Hampshire, UMass Lowell, Binghamton, NJIT, Maine, Albany, New Hampshire, Maine, Bryant, and UMass Lowell in succession. That gives the Catamounts a 17-11 overall run through 28 games so far this year.Â
In their Saturday rematch at home versus UMass Lowell, the Catamounts came out of the locker room with a 41-26 advantage. Vermont cruised from there on a 44-35 run and took the win in the end 85-61. Leading the team in the victory was TJ Hurley with 20 points and two rebounds. Shamir Bogues added 18 points with three assists and three steals, while Sam Alamutu doubled up on 14 points, 12 boards, and five assists in 34 minutes of work.Â
NJIT Highlanders Betting Preview
Over on the Highlanders’ side, they’ve only managed a handful of wins during a very difficult campaign this season. NJIT opened on a 3-12 run over their first 15 outings, beating only Morehead State, Navy and Medgar Evers. Since then it’s been wins over New Hampshire and UMass Lowell, mixed among losses to UMBC, UMass Lowell, Maine, Vermont, Albany, Bryant, Maine, New Hampshire, Bryant, Binghamton, and UMBC. In total across their first 28 games of the season that gives the Highlanders a rough 5-23 overall record so far.Â
Matched up against UMBC in the road rematch on Saturday, the Highlanders entered the second half with a 46-42 deficit. NJIT kept the pace from there but it wasn’t enough in a 95-91 loss. Tariq Francis was the team’s leading scorer with 27 points, seven boards, and six assists. Tim Moore added 16 points with eight rebounds, while Quentin Duncan led the bench scorers with 18 points and three rebounds in 19 minutes on the court.Â

Vermont vs NJIT PredictionÂ
I’m just going to stay with Vermont. The Catamounts cruised right past a decent UMass Lowell team in their last outing, shooting a smooth 57.9 percent from the field with a 34-27 rebounding advantage and just six turnovers. Vermont held the River Hawks to just 37 percent shooting on the other side as well. That gives the Catamounts six straight wins and it was their highest-scoring game (85) since December 30 (121 versus Elms College).Â
Vermont took a 68-64 home win the last time these teams met up back on January 23. The Catamounts didn’t play especially well in that one, though. Neither team shot well (both under 40 percent) and the rebounding was comparable 39-38 in favor of NJIT. Vermont also hit just 16-of-27 (59.3 percent) from the field but had only six turnovers. Alternatively, the River Hawks coughed up 10 turnovers which translated into 16 Catamounts points—which was the real difference in the game. There’s plenty to clean up in the road rematch, but I think Vermont is up for it. I’m probably avoiding this one, though.Â
