Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Betting Preview
It’s been a pretty miserable year so far for Mississippi Valley State, with only a few scattered wins in the books. The Delta Devils went 1-7 over their first eight games before finally picking up another W over Oakwood. Losses came to Liberty, North Texas, Tulsa, LSU, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Prairie View, Texas Southern, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Grambling, and Southern before a victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on February 1. Since then it’s been four more losses for Mississippi Valley State. Those came versus Jackson State, Alcorn State, Alabama A&M, and Alabama State, resulting in a 3-23 overall run so far this year.Â
In the Alabama State home matchup on Monday, the Delta Devils held a 46-30 deficit by the break. MS Valley State was outscored 33-26 the rest of the way during a 79-56 loss in the end. Tops in scoring was Moses Horne, who came off the bench for 12 points, five rebounds, and two steals in 31 minutes during the losing effort. Greg Moore added 10 points and two assists in his 20 minutes off the bench, and Jair Horton chipped in nine points with 10 boards.Â
Texas Southern Tigers Betting Preview
Over on the Texas Southern side, they had a good run going early this month but otherwise, they’ve struggled as well. The Tigers managed just three wins in their first 14 games, taking out Texas A&M-San Antonio, Texas A&M-Kingsville, and College of Biblical Studies during that time. A win streak came next though, as Texas Southern dispatched Grambling, MS Valley State, Alcorn State, Jackson State, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, and Prairie View. Since then it’s been a 1-4 run with a lone win over Grambling among losses to AR-Pine Bluff, Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman, and Southern. That gives the Tigers an 11-15 record so far this season.Â
Matched up against Southern in their Monday road game, the Tigers held a 38-26 deficit by the break. Texas Southern got better from there on a 31-28 advantage but it wasn’t near enough in a 66-57 loss. Leading the team in the losing effort was Kolby Granger with 16 points, seven boards, six steals, and four assists. Kavion McClain was also in double-figures with 12 points, eight assists, and two rebounds in 35 minutes of action on the court.Â

Mississippi Valley State vs Texas Southern PredictionÂ
I’ll lean toward Texas Southern, but there’s not much to get excited about here. The line’s too thick to mess with anyway. The Tigers are coming off a pretty limp loss to a decent Southern team, shooting just 33.9 percent from the field with a 35-24 rebounding deficit. Texas Southern coughed up 20 turnovers for 17 Jags points in a very sloppy overall matchup (44 total turnovers).Â
These teams last saw each other on January 13 in an 82-53 blowout road win for the Tigers. Texas Southern shot 46.3 percent from the field in that one and scored 21 points off 20 Devils turnovers. I’d like to see a cleaner game on both sides this time, but for the most part, the Tigers should be in control overall.Â
