Nevada Wolf Pack Betting Preview

Nevada has had some shaky runs so far this year, but they’ve also been able to maintain a winning record. The Wolf Pack opened on an 8-3 stretch with wins over Sam Houston, Washington, Weber State, Santa Clara, VCU, Oklahoma State, South Dakota State, and Texas Southern. After losses to Colorado State, Wyoming, Utah State, and New Mexico in the next four, the Wolf Pack beat Fresno State, Air Force, and San Jose State ahead of losses to Utah State, San Diego State, and Boise State. After wins versus UNLV, Air Force, and Fresno State in the next three, the Wolf Pack had a 14-10 overall record through their first 24 games so far.

In their matchup with Fresno State on Monday, Nevada held a comfortable lead 41-31 by the break. The Wolf Pack finished off with a 53-38 run and took the dominant win 94-69 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Nick Davidson with his 25 points, six assists, two steals and two rebounds. Justin McBride came off the bench for 19 points with eight rebounds and two assists, while Xavier DuSell had 15 points with six rebounds and two assists.

San Jose State Spartans Betting Preview

Over on the San Jose State side, they didn’t start out the year too badly but they’ve been fighting off the .500 mark for quite some time. San Jose State lost to Western Illinois, Pacific, Hawaii, UC Santa Barbara, and USC in their first six games, then hit a 6-1 stretch. Those wins came versus UTEP, UNC Greensboro, Long Beach State, Lincoln University CA, Cal Poly, and Kennesaw State. After a losing streak versus Boise State, Colorado State, UNLV, and Utah State, the Spartans hit a 5-3 stretch with losses to Nevada, San Diego State, and Boise State. The wins otherwise were over Air Force, New Mexico, Wyoming, Air Force again and Fresno State, giving the Spartans a 12-13 overall record through their first 25 outings this year.

In their Tuesday game versus San Diego State, the Spartans were up by 17 points at the break but gave it away during the second half in a 69-66 loss. Latrell Davis led the team with 21 points and three boards in the defeat.

Why the San Jose State Spartans will win

  • The home team has won six of Nevada's last eight games.
  • Nevada has lost three of its last four road night games against Conference opponents.
  • Nevada has lost the first half in three of its last four road games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Why the Nevada Wolf Pack will win

  • San Jose State has lost each of its last 11 Friday night games.
  • Nevada has won 16 of its last 18 games against San Jose State.
  • Nevada has won the first half in each of its last three games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Nevada vs San Jose State Prediction

I’ll stick with Nevada. The Wolf Pack had a nice game versus a struggling Fresno State team this week, shooting a smooth 61.3 percent from the field with a 34-28 rebounding edge. The 20 points off 18 Bulldogs turnovers didn’t hurt, either. Nevada has now won three straight games, hitting 71 or more points in all of them. It’s been a nice little run following three consecutive losses prior to it.

When these teams last met back on January 18, the Wolf Pack landed a 75-64 home win. Nevada shot very well (52.7 percent) in that one, while San Jose State didn’t (41.2 percent). The Wolf Pack also held a fairly dominant 37-26 rebounding edge and had 20 team assists. That said, Nevada also coughed up 12 turnovers for 20 Spartans points. Otherwise, the game would likely have been something of a blowout. The Wolf Pack need to control their butterfingers tendencies in the road rematch, but I think they’re set up pretty well for success.

Andrew’s Pick Nevada Wolf Pack -5.5
