Saint John’s Red Storm Betting Preview

The Red Storm are enjoying a very consistent season; they’re yet to lose consecutive games. Saint John’s won their first four outings before a 1-2 run that featured a win over Virginia in between losses to Baylor and Georgia. Victories over Harvard, Kansas State, Bryant, DePaul, Providence, and Delaware followed, then another loss to Creighton. Since New Year’s Eve, it’s been all victories, though. The Storm have taken out Butler, Xavier, Villanova, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Xavier again, Georgetown again, Providence, and Marquette in their last nine outings. The result in the record column so far has been a 20-3 overall record this year.

In the Marquette matchup on Tuesday, the Storm faced a one-point deficit of 31-30 going into the second half. Saint John’s came back on a 40-33 run from there and took the victory 70-64 in the end. Tops in scoring was Kadary Richmond with 18 points, 11 boards, and eight assists. Also notching double-doubles were RJ Luis (17 points; 11 rebounds; four steals; three assists) and Zuby Ejiofor (13 points; 13 rebounds; one assist).

UConn Huskies Betting Preview

Over on the UConn side, they’ve got a couple of spotty runs this year but otherwise, they’re playing well. The Huskies won their first four before falling in succession to Memphis, Colorado, and Dayton. Wins over MD Eastern Shore, Baylor, Texas, Gonzaga, Xavier, Butler, DePaul, and Providence came next, then a 2-3 run. Those losses were versus Villanova, Creighton, and Xavier, mixed with a pair of wins over Georgetown and Butler. Since then it’s been consecutive wins for the Huskies. They’ve taken out DePaul and Marquette in those two, giving UConn a 16-6 overall run through the first 22 games of the 2024-25 season.

Matched up against Marquette over the weekend, the Huskies were up 42-29 by the break. UConn was outpaced 40-35 the rest of the way but still managed to hang on for the win 77-69 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Solo Ball with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists. Alex Karaban added 15 points with four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks, while Samson Johnson chipped in with 13 points and four rebounds in 27 minutes.

Saint John’s vs UConn Prediction

I’ll lean toward the Huskies here. We should have a pretty great matchup though, so you could call it either way. UConn dispatched a good Marquette team in a key road matchup over the weekend, shooting a stellar 59.5 percent from the field and 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from 3-point range. The Huskies also dominated the boards 36-26 but nearly shot themselves in the foot with a whopping 25 turnovers for 29 Eagles points. During this 3-1 run, UConn has scored 72 or more points in every game.

As for Saint John’s, they’re looking good during this nine-game win streak, posting 68 or more points in seven of those outings. The Red Storm will serve as a formidable opponent for UConn on Friday, and it’ll be one of the highlights of the day’s college basketball slate. The Huskies desperately need to control their ball-handling mistakes this time, however, or they’ll get buried quickly.

Andrew Jett's Pick: UConn Huskies -1.5
