McNeese State Cowboys Betting Preview
McNeese State couldn’t quite cross the .500 mark in the early days of the season, but their record is looking much better since then. The Cowboys went 5-5 over their first 10 outings, beating the College of Biblical Studies, North Texas, Illinois State, Longwood, and LeTourneau. Otherwise, the losses were versus South Dakota State, Alabama, Liberty, Santa Clara, and Mississippi State. A winning streak ensued after that, as the Cowboys took out Louisiana, New Orleans, Southeast Louisiana, East Texas A&M, and Northwestern State for a 10-5 run through their first 15 games of the year.
Matched up against Nicholls on Saturday, the Cowboys went into the break sporting a 39-33 halftime edge. McNeese State kept it rolling in the second half with a 41-38 stretch and took the eventual win 80-71. Javohn Garcia was the top team scorer with 25 points and two rebounds. Quadir Copeland added 14 points, one rebound, one assist, and one steal, while T’Johnn Brown came off the bench to provide 10 points with three boards and two steals.
Houston Christian Huskies Betting Preview
Over on the Houston Christian side, they’ve had a handful of good showings this year but haven’t been able to muster much success in the win column. The Huskies went just 2-6 over their first eight games, beating only Avila and Rockford with losses otherwise versus Texas, Creighton, Rice, Eastern Michigan, Northern Arizona, and UTSA. A 2-1 run came after that with a loss to Northwestern State amid wins over East Texas A&M and Louisiana Monroe. Following three straight losses to Texas A&M, North Texas, and Lamar in succession, Houston Christian stopped the bleeding with a win over Stephen F. Austin for a 5-10 overall record.
In the Incarnate Word matchup over the weekend, the Huskies held a five-point lead by the break. Houston Christian kept the pace from there on a 40-40 second half and eventually powered out the victory 81-76 in the end. Bryson Dawkins led the way on his 17 points with six rebounds and two assists. Julian Mackey put up 16 points with two assists in 27 minutes, and Elijah Brooks added 15 points with seven rebounds and four assists. Top bench scorer D’Aundre Samuels chipped in 13 points with two rebounds in 11 minutes of work.

McNeese State vs Houston Christian Prediction
I’m leaning toward McNeese. The Cowboys need to clean up their act after a pretty sloppy game against Nicholls, though. McNeese shot a tepid 37.5 percent from the field in that one, along with just 20 percent (3-of-15) from outside and 13 turnovers. The good news is that McNeese’s defense was on point, and they had a nice 46-35 rebounding edge in the win. McNeese is cooking during this six-game win streak; they’ve scored 75 or more points in each of the last five outings.
As for Houston Christian, they shot quite well (54 percent) and had a 29-28 rebounding edge over Incarnate Word in their latest win. The Huskies have posted 164 combined points in the last pair, but they’ve also given up 149 combined on the other side. If McNeese can have another hot-shooting outing, I think the Cowboys hit it here. Should be a fun matchup, though.
