Detroit Titans Betting Preview
The Titans haven’t had the greatest season so far this year, but they opened up on a .500 run over their first 10 games. Detroit beat Cleary University, Niagara, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, and Fort Wayne in that time. Otherwise, it was losses to Loyola Chicago, Toledo, Wake Forest, Tulsa, and Rhode Island. Since then Detroit has hit a miserable 1-7 run in the last eight outings. The lone win came over Robert Morris. Otherwise, it was losses versus Wright State, Davidson, Northern Kentucky, Wisconsin, Youngstown State, Milwaukee, and IUPUI in that stretch for a rough 6-12 run over their first 18 games of the season.
Back on Thursday versus IUPUI, the Titans entered the second half sporting a 45-29 deficit. Detroit was drilled 50-32 the rest of the way, resulting in a 95-61 blowout loss. The only team player to finish in double-figures during the losing effort was Grant Gondrezick with 21 points and five assists. TJ Nadeau chipped in eight points with two rebounds, and Nate Johnson had nine points with three rebounds and one assist in 26 minutes of work on the court.
Fort Wayne Mastodons Betting Preview
Over on the Fort Wayne side, they opened up the season with a highly inconsistent run but they’ve been able to right the proverbial ship since then. The Mastodons went 5-4 over their first nine outings, losing to UCF, Penn State, Radford, and Detroit. The wins otherwise were over Bluffton, Bethune-Cookman, Southern Indiana, Drexel, and East Texas A&M. Since then it’s been a 7-2 run over the last nine games for the Mastodons. Fort Wayne has lost to only Michigan and Northern Kentucky in those games, beating Robert Morris, IUPUI, Eastern Michigan, Defiance, Green Bay, Youngstown State, and Milwaukee otherwise for a 12-6 overall record this season so far.
Matched up against Milwaukee in the Wednesday game, the Mastodons headed to the locker room with a solid 40-32 edge. Fort Wayne was outscored 41-38 the rest of the way but held on for the win 78-73. Jalen Jackson finished with a team-high 25 points alongside nine boards and two steals. Rasheed Bello added 23 points with four rebounds, two steals, and two assists while leading bench scorer Corey Hadnot posted seven points, two rebounds, and two assists.
Why the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons will win
- Detroit Mercy has lost each of its last 15 road games against Conference opponents.
- Purdue Fort Wayne has won each of its last six home games against the Horizon League.
- Purdue Fort Wayne has won the first half in each of its last seven games against the Horizon League.
Detroit vs Fort Wayne Prediction
I’ll stick with Fort Wayne. In the Milwaukee matchup this week, the Mastodons dispatched a decent team despite getting outmuscled on the boards 46-32 (14-4 offensive). Fort Wayne shot reasonably well (42.6 percent) and had 19 points off 15 Panthers turnovers. That makes 68 or more points in four straight games (a 3-1 run) for Fort Wayne, who has been playing quite well since early December.
As for Detroit, they’re coming off a blowout loss to a struggling IUPUI squad. The Titans were outpaced on the boards 37-33 and coughed up 16 turnovers for 24 Jaguars points. Detroit has been below 65 points in six of the last seven games (all six were losses) so it’s tough imagining them keeping pace with Fort Wayne if the Mastodons score well. I like Fort Wayne pretty much wire to wire here.
