Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles Betting Preview

The Screaming Eagles limped out of the gate with a 1-4 start. The lone win came versus Bellarmine. Otherwise, it was losses to DePaul, Bucknell, Marshal, and Fort Wayne in that stretch. Southern Indiana improved greatly over the next half-dozen outings with a 5-1 run. That lone loss came versus Southern Illinois. The wins otherwise were over South Dakota, Indiana State, East-West University, Shawnee State, and Tennessee State. In their next outing, however, the Screaming Eagles took a blowout loss to TN-Martin.

On Tuesday versus Morehead State, the Screaming Eagles opened with a decent run, heading into halftime with a 33-29 deficit. Southern Indiana posted a 39-37 stretch the rest of the way in a 70-68 defeat, however. Leading the team in scoring was Damoni Harrison with 24 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Braxton Jones came off the bench to add 20 points and a block in 31 minutes of action, while Jayland Randall came away with nine points and six boards.

Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Tennessee Tech side, they conversely opened with a nice 3-1 stretch. Following a loss to Georgia, the Golden Eagles beat Bryan TN, West Georgia, and VMI in their next trio. Tennessee Tech hit the skids after that though, with a lone win over Presbyterian in their next seven games. The losses otherwise came versus UTRGV, UCF, Vanderbilt, North Alabama, West Georgia, and Western Illinois. It’s been wins over Lindenwood and Milligan since then.

In the Milligan matchup on Sunday, the Golden Eagles were in good shape at halftime with a 43-35 edge. Tennessee Tech closed on a 52-40 run for a 20-point margin of victory 95-75. Rodney Johnson led the way on 33 points with five rebounds and two assists. Kyle Layton added 11 points with five assists and two rebounds. Topping the bench scorers was Ray Glasgow with 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Why the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles will win

  • The road team has won the first half in each of Southern Indiana’s last three games.

Southern Indiana vs Tennessee Tech Prediction

I’ll probably stick with Southern Indiana. The Screaming Eagles have been playing well overall since mid-November, a span that included a 6-2 stretch. During that time, Southern Indiana posted 70 or more points in all eight games, and they were close in one loss (73-70 versus Southern Illinois on December 7). The Eagles can definitely score when they’re motivated. On Tuesday versus Morehead State, Southern Indiana posted a pretty mediocre offensive effort, though. The Screaming Eagles shot 42.9 percent from the field with 3-of-13 (23.1 percent) from outside and 17-of-25 (68 percent) from the line—not to mention the 41-31 rebounding deficit.

As for Tennessee Tech, they didn’t have any issues with Milligan in their last outing, hitting a stellar 55.2 percent from the field with 42 rebounds and just five turnovers. The Eagles were miserable from the line though, hitting just nine of their 23 free throws (39.1 percent). That number needs to come way up, obviously. That said, Tennessee Tech has hit 68 or more points in four straight games and will probably be fairly competitive here if all goes well.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles +2.5
