The Panthers’ year got off to an 8-1 start with wins over Coppin State, Jackson State, NC Central, UAB, American, Old Dominion, Hampton and Pfeiffer. After a loss to UNC Greensboro, High Point beat North Texas, App State and Carolina U.
In the Carolina University matchup on Tuesday, the Panthers were up 53-20 at the break. High Point kept rolling on a 46-11 stretch from there and won 99-31. Leading team scorer Abdoulaye Thiam came off the bench for 13 points.

I’ll probably just stick with High Point. The Panthers have been pretty impressive so far this season, and they’re coming off a dominant win versus an overmatched Carolina U team. High Point has scored 68 or more points in six of the last seven games—a 6-1 run—but to be fair they do have a few relative scoring duds overall this year.
As for SIU, they took care of Austin Peay in a pretty solid victory during their last outing. The Salukis shot a reasonable 42.9 percent from the field in that one and took full advantage of 17 Governors turnovers. Southern Illinois has been below 66 points in two of the last three games but they can score fairly well when they’re so motivated. That said, I like High Point better here.
