New Orleans Privateers Betting Preview
New Orleans’ campaign kicked off on a 1-4 run featuring losses to Kansas State, Troy, Stonehill, and Robert Morris. The Privateers would then beat Tulane in OT before two more losses to Baylor and Nicholls.
In the matchup with the Colonels last weekend, the Privateers were down by five points at halftime. New Orleans got slightly better from there but still lost a close one 73-70. Tops in scoring was MJ Thomas on 16 points and nine boards.
Iowa Hawkeyes Betting Preview
Over on the Iowa side, they beat East Texas A&M, Southern, South Dakota, Washington State, and Rider before a loss to Utah State. The Hawkeyes would then beat USC Upstate and Northwestern before losses to Michigan and Iowa State.
In the Iowa State matchup on Thursday the Hawkeyes held a 44-37 edge by halftime. Iowa was outscored 52-36 the rest of the way, however, and lost 89-80. Owen Freeman was the top contributor on the team with 16 points and five boards in the defeat.
Why the Iowa Hawkeyes will win
- Iowa has won 36 of its last 38 games against non-conference opponents at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
- New Orleans has lost 25 of its last 29 games against non-conference opponents.
- New Orleans has lost the first half in six of its last seven road games against non-conference opponents.
New Orleans vs Iowa Prediction
I’ll stay with Iowa. The line’s too thick to play around with, though. The Hawkeyes are coming off a tough home loss to a good Iowa State team despite not playing too badly stats-wise. The only glaring discrepancy was the 46-34 rebounding deficit (18-8 offensive), which proved to be the difference. Iowa has scored 80 or more points in four straight games but they’ve also given up 77 or more in five straight.
As for New Orleans, they were out-muscled on the boards 43-37 by Nicholls and had 13 turnovers for 16 Colonels points in their latest loss. The Privateers have given up 73 or more points in three straight games themselves, so Iowa shouldn’t have too many issues putting up points on Sunday.
