Tennessee Volunteers Betting Preview
The Volunteers have done quite well so far this year, posting four double-digit wins. The opener was an 80-64 victory over Gardner-Webb, then came a 77-55 win versus Louisville. The Vols dispatched Montana on November 13 by a score of 92-57.
Tennessee made it four straight with another win over Austin Peay on Sunday. The Volunteers were up 52-29 at the break and scored 51 more from there in a 103-68 finish. Igor Milicic finished with 23 points, nine rebounds, and four assists to lead the way. Tennessee will take on UT Martin, Syracuse, and Miami after this game.
Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview
Over on the Virginia side, they’ve been able to dispatch all comers so far as well—but they’ve only played three games. The Cavaliers beat Campbell 65-56 in the opener, then followed it up with a 62-45 home win over Coppin State.
Back on Friday versus Villanova, the Cavaliers were ahead by five points at the end of the first half. Virginia hit a 39-34 second-half run and took the win 70-60. Isaac McKneely was tops on the team with 23 points, two boards, and two assists.
Why the Tennessee Volunteers will win
- Tennessee has won each of its last 10 night games against non-conference opponents.
- Virginia has lost each of its last three games against AP-ranked opponents.
- Virginia has lost the first half in each of its last five games against AP-ranked opponents at a neutral venue.
Why the Virginia Cavaliers will win
- Virginia has won each of its last six games when playing with a rest advantage.
Tennessee vs Virginia Prediction
I’m going to stay with Tennessee. The Volunteers have looked pretty darn good so far this season, but to be fair they haven’t played anyone of real consequence just yet. Tennessee demolished Austin Peay in their last outing thanks to 63.8 percent shooting and a 43-25 rebounding advantage. That makes 77 or more points in all four games for the Vols and 92 or more in two of those.
As for Virginia, they had 12 turnovers and got outmuscled on the boards 34-27 (12-3 offensive) by Villanova in their last game. The Cavaliers shot very well, though 51 percent from the field and 56 percent (14-of-25) from outside. Virginia has been below 66 points in two of their three games so far this year however, so it’s marginally difficult to imagine them bombing in enough points to keep a cover pace on Tennessee on Thursday.
