The Indiana State Sycamores and the FAU Owls meet Monday in college basketball action from the John Wooden Family Fieldhouse. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s an Indiana State vs. FAU prediction.
Indiana State Recap
The Indiana State Sycamores come into the 2024-25 season under a new regime hoping to carry over some success after Indiana State went 32-7 overall including 17-3 in MVC play to win the regular season title, ending up in the NIT after a loss in the conference tournament. The Sycamores would end up falling to Seton Hall in the NIT title game. Head coach Josh Schertz took the job at Saint Louis, leaving Matthew Graves, associate head coach to take over. The problem is that Schertz took some of the Sycamores’ best with him like Robbie Avila, Isaiah Swope and others. Tyran Cook transfers in from VMI after logging 12.7 PPG while Samage Teel comes over from Presbyterian after putting up 13.6 PPG and shooting 41.5% from three last year to head Graves’ backcourt while Markus Harding will lead the charge in the frontcourt for Indiana State after logging 10.2 PPG and 5.2 RPG for the Chippewas at Central Michigan last season. It’s unfortunate after coming so close to the top of the mountain for the Sycamores, but this looks to be year one of the rebuild at ISU.
Why the Indiana State Sycamores will win
- Indiana State has won eight of its last nine day games.
FAU Recap
The FAU Owls come into the 2024-25 season hoping to keep the ball rolling under a new head coach of their own after going 25-9 last year including 14-4 in AAC play to make the NCAA tournament with an at-large bid. The stay for the Owls was short-lived, as they were bounced by Northwestern in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Following the season, Dusty May would leave FAU for the head coach job at Michigan, leaving John Jakus to take over the gig after being an assistant at Baylor. The issue for FAU is that this is a fairly green team as well, with the bulk of the team that made it to the final four two seasons prior now gone. Guys like Alijah Martin, Johnell Davis, Vlad Goldin, Bryan Greenlee and more. KyKy Tandy comes over from Jacksonville State and is expected to lead the offense as the floor general and distance shooter while Leland Walker will be the rim-attacking guard. There’s a lot of upside with this team, it’s all up to Jakus to put pressure on this coal to turn it into a diamond.
Why the Florida Atlantic Owls will win
- Florida Atlantic has won 15 of its last 16 day games against non-Conference opponents.
Indiana State vs. FAU Prediction
I’m on the under here. It’s really hard to get on a side with so many unproven pieces on both sides, and with how little we know about what these two teams are actually going to produce from the opening jump. I think a lack of cohesion will produce sloppy play, a lot of turnovers and a lower-scoring game. Give me the under here.
