Wake Forest Demon Deacons Betting Preview

The Demon Deacons opened up the season with a 2-2 run, beating Kennesaw State and Western Carolina ahead of losses to NC State and Georgia Tech. Wake Forest would win the next three however, taking out Virginia Tech, Oregon State and SMU. In the loss to the Mustangs, the Deacons coughed up five turnovers with 301 yards and 17 first downs from the offense. The defense gave up 246 yards on the other side though, and saved the game with three takeaways in a 13-12 victory thriller at home.

In their latest outing versus Florida State on Saturday, the Demon Deacons coughed up 14 points in each of the final three quarters during a 42-7 loss on the road. Quarterback Robby Ashford finished 12-of-21 for 93 yards and an interception while also leading the rush with 12 carries for 59 yards. Tops in receiving was Micah Mays with five grabs for 51 yards and a touchdown in the losing effort.

Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview

Over on the Cavaliers’ side, they beat Coastal Carolina in the opener then fell in a four-point road defeat versus NC State in game two. Virginia has since improved with wins over William & Mary, Stanford, Florida State, Louisville, Washington State and North Carolina from there. In the win over North Carolina on October 25, Virginia posted a tepid 259 yards with 3.8 yards per play and 16 first downs on the way to a 17-16 OT road victory. The defense posted three takeaways and held the opposition to just 5-of-15 on third-down tries, though.

Virginia was able to keep the win streak going this past weekend versus California. The Cavs were up 17-7 by the end of the first half, eventually taking it 31-21 in the end. QB Chandler Morris finished 24-of-36 for 262 yards, and J’Mari Taylor led the rush with 21 totes for 105 yards and a pair of scores. Trell Harris added five catches for 68 yards along the way.

Wake Forest vs Virginia Prediction

I’ll stay with Virginia. The Cavs have had a couple of close calls this year but overall they’re looking good with just the one defeat in the books. Virginia did a great job on defense in the win over Cal, holding the Bears to just 14 first downs, eight rush yards and 3-of-12 on third downs alongside a couple of picks. The Cavs offense generated 456 yards on the other side with 23 first downs and 10-of-19 on third-down conversion attempts. Virginia has scored quite well this year, with that 17-point total versus North Carolina being their low point.

As for Wake Forest, they couldn’t find much room versus FSU in their latest outing, notching just 247 yards, 3.5 yards per play and 19 first downs alongside two turnovers in the blowout. The 11 penalties for 93 yards didn’t help either. The Deacons have just 20 combined points in their last two outings, so it’s tough to imagine that they’ll be able to do much against Virginia’s defense in a tricky road matchup this weekend.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Virginia Cavaliers -6.5
