Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview
The Cavs opened up their year with a win over Coastal Carolina and a loss to NC State, but quickly found their groove with a string of wins. Virginia beat William & Mary, Stanford, Florida State, Louisville, Washington State, North Carolina and Cal in the next seven outings. The Cavaliers were able to score points in every quarter on the Golden Bears, leading to a 31-21 victory effort. Virginia held Cal to just 263 total yards with 14 first downs, two picks and a 3-of-12 success rate on third-down tries in the victory.
In their latest outing Saturday versus Wake Forest, Virginia trailed 10-6 by the half and could only muster three field goals in a 16-9 loss at home. QB Daniel Kaelin had an 18-of-28 line for 145 yards and J’Mari Taylor had 19 carries for 98 yards. Tops in receiving during the loss was Trell Harris with six catches for 60 yards total.
Duke Blue Devils Betting Preview
Over on the Devils’ side, they beat Elon in their opener ahead of losses to Illinois and Tulane in the next pair. Duke would then beat NC State, Syracuse and California ahead of a loss to Georgia Tech, then eked out a road win over Clemson on November 1. In the victory over the Tigers 46-45, Duke posted 439 yards on offense with 22 first downs and 6.9 yards per play but went just 3-of-14 on third-down tries. The Devils defense gave up 560 yards on the other side with 28 first downs and 3-of-10 on third downs.
Matched up against UConn last weekend, Duke had a fight on their hands. The Blue Devils scored in every quarter—but also gave up points in every quarter—along the way to a tight loss 37-34. QB Darian Mensah finished with a 22-of-31 line for 222 yards, three scores and two picks while leading rusher Nate Sheppard had 16 carries for 100 yards and two more touchdowns. Sean Brown led the receivers with 61 yards on five catches while Jeremiah Hasley was right there as well with 61 yards and a TD on four catches in the losing effort.

Virginia vs Duke Prediction
I’ll stick with Virginia. That said, the Cavaliers have to recover from their shocker loss to Wake Forest at home last weekend. Virginia had three lost fumbles in that one and went just 3-of-14 on third-down tries. The defense was still pretty good with 203 yards, 3.2 yards per play and 12 first downs allowed, but didn’t have any takeaways. With this upset home loss and a tight road win 17-16 over North Carolina back on October 25, Virginia looks vulnerable right now. Still, I think the team will bounce back and take care of business on Saturday.
As for Duke, they lost a shootout on the road versus UConn last weekend thanks to three turnovers on offense and 467 yards allowed by the defensive unit. The Blue Devils gained 390 yards with 26 first downs themselves while giving up 6.7 yards per play and 25 first downs on the other side. Duke has a combined 80 points in their last two games but I don’t see them reaching those heights this weekend.
