The Hoosiers plowed through Old Dominion, Kennesaw State and Indiana State in the first trio of outings, then embarrassed rival Illinois 63-10 in a home win. Indiana kept it going with a five-point win over Iowa then powered past Oregon on the road 30-20. In the victory over the Ducks Indiana’s defense had a couple of picks alongside 267 yards, 14 first downs and 3-of-14 on third downs allowed. The offense managed 326 total yards but went just 5-of-14 on third downs themselves during the winning effort.
Matched up against Michigan State last weekend, the Hoosiers scored points in all four quarters—including 14 in both the second and third. The end result was a blowout win at home 38-13. QB Fernando Mendoza finished 24-of-28 for 338 yards and four scores. Kaelon Black carried 10 times for 64 yards and one touchdown, while leading receiver Omar Cooper had eight grabs for 115 yards and a touchdown. Elijah Sarratt added a couple of scores in the victory as well.

I’ll stay with Indiana, but the line’s too thick to mess with. the Hoosiers are rolling along nicely right now and coming off an impressive home win over a decent Michigan State team. Indiana was very disciplined (one penalty) in that one, notching 464 yards, 8.3 yards per play, 24 first downs and no turnovers along the way. The defense held the Spartans to just 5-of-14 on third downs but did give up a bit in the passing game (293 yards). Still, Indiana is cooking these days with 27 or more points in six of their seven outings so far.
As for UCLA, they had a scare against a pretty good Maryland squad last weekend and made plenty of mistakes along the way: namely 10 penalties and three turnovers. Still, the late surge helped UCLA extend their win streak to three, and now the three-game gauntlet against top-level teams begins. With the first outing being against a red-hot Indiana squad at the Rock, I’m not thrilled about the Bruins’ chances at keeping relative pace.
