The Toledo Rockets and the Michigan State Spartans meet in week 1 college football action from Spartan Stadium on Friday. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Toledo Rockets vs. Michigan State Spartans Prediction.

Toledo Rockets Team Preview

The Toledo Rockets come into the 2026 season without Jason Candle as the head coach for the first time since 2015 after going 8-5 last year, including 6-2 in MAC conference play but it culminated with a loss to Louisville in the Boca Raton bowl, 27-22. In comes Mike Jacobs with a tenure from Lenoir Rhyne and Mercer and has been a winning machine. Khamoni Robinson battles John Alan Richter for the starting QB job but the Rockets do bring in a fair share of talent including CJ Jacobs at RB who was a beast at Mercer, as well as Corey Smith from Penn State. Rico Bond and Adjatay Dabbs also come in to bolster Toledo’s receiving group. On defense, Andrew Zock comes over as the reigning FCS defensive player of the year from Mercer as does Isaac Prince who had 3 sacks and 10.5 TFLs at Mercer last year.

Michigan State Spartans Team Preview

The Michigan State Spartans come into the 2026 season looking to make some moves with Pat Fitzgerald at head coach after Fitzgerald spent two decades at Northwestern. Alesso Milivojevic takes over at starting QB after posting a 10-3 TD-INT ratio last season and had 6 TDs in his final two games of the season. Cam Fancher also comes in after stops at FAU, Marshall and UCF to compete for QB reps but Cam Edwards also comes over from UConn after logging over 2,600 career rushing yards. MSU’s defense returns just one of their top 8 tacklers from last season but Jordan Hall is the top returning tacklers with 2.5 sacks last season.

Toledo Rockets vs. Michigan State Spartans Prediction

I’m on Toledo and the points here. Pat Fitzgerald at Northwestern wasn’t really one to blow lesser teams out of the water and Jacobs has been a winner wherever he’s gone in his career. I’m also not a fan of this roster that Fitzgerald’s put together at Michigan State and while there is some turnover at Toledo, the Rockets have enough talent to make this a game. I’ll rock with Toledo and the points in this one.

Chris Ruffolo's Pick: Toledo +10
