Penn State Nittany Lions Betting Preview
The Nittany Lions got off to a great start this year, rattling off convincing wins in each of their first three appearances. The opener was a 46-11 victory over Nevada, then came a 34-0 shutout against Florida International. Penn State would keep it going versus Villanova on September 13, rolling to a 52-6 blowout win. The Nittany Lions managed 465 yards on offense (237 rushing) in that one, along with 6.7 yards per play and 28 first downs. The D held the Wildcats to just 179 yards on the other side with 11 first downs and two picks.
In their marquis matchup versus Oregon last weekend, the Nittany Lions came back from a 10-3 deficit with 14 points in the fourth quarter but eventually fell 30-24 after two overtime periods in a tough result at home. QB Drew Allar logged a 14-of-25 line for 137 yards, two scores and a pick, and Devonte Ross caught both touchdowns among his four grabs for 48 yards. Kaytron Allen was the team’s leading rusher with 12 totes for 54 yards and a score of his own in the defeat.
UCLA Bruins Betting Preview
Over on the Bruins’ side, they had a tricky matchup against Utah in their opener and things didn’t go very well—that one turned into a 43-10 blowout loss. Game two versus UNLV ended up a tough 30-23 road loss, and UCLA kept it going with another loss 35-10 versus New Mexico in the next outing. In the loss to the Lobos, the Bruins gave up 450 total yards—with 298 of those being on the ground—alongside 7.1 yards per play and 22 first downs. The 13 penalties for 116 yards didn’t help matters either.
Matched up against Northwestern last weekend, the Bruins were down 17-3 by the break. UCLA held the Wildcats scoreless from there but still lost in a close finish 17-14. QB Nico Iamaleava logged a 19-of-27 finish with 180 yards and a touchdown. Tops in rushing was Iamaleava as well with 14 carries for 65 yards, and Kwazi Gilmer had three catches for a team-high 51 yards and a touchdown.

Penn State vs UCLA Prediction
I’ll stay with Penn State. Following a tight loss in a pretty epic game against a great Oregon squad last weekend, the Lions need a good bounce-back outing and this is a solid opportunity to get it. Penn State managed just 137 pass yards in their loss to the Ducks, alongside only 15 first downs and a 6-of-15 effort on third-down conversions. The defense gave up 424 yards on the other side (248 passing) but held pretty strong on third downs (6-of-18) overall. It was the first time all year that the Lions have given up more than 11 points, and it took two overtime periods to get there.
As for UCLA, they gained 311 yards total (180 passing) with 18 first downs and 7-of-14 on third-down tries in their tight win over Northwestern last weekend. The Bruins did pretty well on defense, shutting out the Wildcats in the second half. Needless to say however, this weekend will be a completely different experience.
Andrew Jett's Pick: Penn State Nittany Lions -26.5
