Over on the Vols’ side, they managed to beat Syracuse and East Tennessee State by sizable margins in their first pair of outings before falling in overtime at home versus Georgia. The Volunteers would bounce back with wins over UAB, Mississippi State and Arkansas from there, then took a road loss to Alabama on October 18. In that one Tennessee ended up posting 410 yards with 27 first downs but also went just 5-of-13 on third downs and had 10 total penalties for 66 yards along the way to the 37-20 defeat.
Matched up against Kentucky last weekend, the Volunteers went on a scoring tear, putting up points in every quarter. Tennessee posted 21 in the first and 14 in both the second and third quarters during a 56-34 road win. QB Joey Aguilar was 20-of-26 for 396 yards and three scores while Star Thomas had 10 totes for 64 yards and a TD. DeSean Bishop rushed 14 times for 48 yards and two more TDs while Chris Brazzell had four catches fo 138 yards and a touchdown as the team’s leading receiver in the win.

On defense the Volunteers had 476 yards allowed but also had a 5-of-11 success rate given on thirds alongside three takeaways. Tennessee needed a good bounce-back effort to reorient themselves after a 17-point road loss to Alabama, and they got it.
As for Oklahoma, they lost the handle late versus Ole Miss and paid the price in their latest outing. The Sooners went just 4-of-14 on third downs and had eight penalties along the way, but the solid third quarter put the team back into a decent position down the stretch. This weekend is going to be another tough matchup though, so the Sooners need to forget that loss to Ole Miss quickly.
