Kennesaw State Owls Betting Preview

Kennesaw State lost their first two games this year versus Wake Forest and Indiana, then hit a win streak. Those victories came courtesy of Merrimack, Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee, LA Tech, FIU and UTEP in the next six. In the win over the Miners on October 28, the owls posted 304 total yards, 4.3 yards per play and 3-of-15 on third downs but the defense held strong on the other side with 4.0 yards per play and 2-of-16 on third downs allowed in the win.

Last weekend versus New Mexico State, the Owls were up comfortably 24-7 by the start of the fourth quarter, but then gave up two unanswered TDs in a 24-21 win that was tighter than it should have been. Amari Odom had a 14-of-30 line for 219 yards, three scores and two picks while Coleman Bennett added 16 carries for 86 yards as the team’s lead rusher. Gabriel Benyard led the receivers on three catches for 74 yards and a pair of his own touchdowns.

Jacksonville State Gamecocks Betting Preview

Over on the Jacksonville State side, they went 2-2 in their first four games of the year. The wins in that time were over Liberty and Murray State while the losses came versus UCF and Georgia Southern. The Gamecocks went 3-1 over the next quartet with a loss to Southern Miss ahead of wins versus Sam Houston, Delaware and Middle Tennessee. In the tight 24-21 road win over Middle Tennessee on October 29, Jacksonville State posted 358 yards on offense with 17 first downs and an 8-of-18 success rate on third-down tries. The game was pretty disciplined with just two penalties and no turnovers.

Matched up against UTEP last weekend, the Gamecocks had a fight on their hands. Jacksonville State was up 20-13 by the end of the first half, then gave up a score in the third. The Gamecocks hit a 10-7 run from there however, and came away with a hard-fought road win 30-27 in the end. QB Caden Creel finished 15-of-31 for 181 yards, one score and one pick while also leading the rush on 134 yards off 13 totes. Cam Cook had 19 carries for 127 yards and a TD, while lead receiver Deondre Johnson had one big 77-yard TD catch.

Kennesaw State vs Jacksonville State Prediction

I’ll stay with Kennesaw State. Both these teams are coming off tight wins though, so it’ll be interesting to see how each responds. In any case, the Owls made some mistakes in their three-point road win over the Aggies last weekend, notching 13 team penalties for 128 yards and coughing up a couple of picks. The offense was otherwise good though (427 total yards) and the defense held New Mexico State to just 3.9 yards per play alongside three takeaways. That makes seven straight wins for the Owls, but a few of those have been close.

As for Jacksonville State, they were penalty-happy themselves (11 for 66 yards) in their win over UTEP last weekend but got the win with 275 rush yards. The Gamecocks have 24 or more points in eight straight games now, so this may be a high total in the end.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Kennesaw State Owls -2.5
