Kansas Jayhawks Betting Preview

The Jayhawks put up a 3-1 run over their first four games this year, losing to Missouri among wins versus Fresno State, Wagner and West Virginia. Kansas would go 2-3 over the next five with losses to Cincinnati, Texas Tech and Kansas State mixed with wins over UCF and Oklahoma State. On November 1 in the 38-21 victory versus the Cowboys, Kansas scored 28 points in the second half on the way to the win. The offense gathered 342 yards with 232 rush yards and 5.9 yards per play, going 6-of-10 on third-down tries as well. Defensively the Jayhawks gave up 316 total yards and 19 first downs with 5.1 yards per play on average.

In their latest matchup versus Arizona back on November 8, the Jayhawks fell back into the loss column. Kansas was up 17-14 by the break but got outscored 10-3 from there in a tough result 24-20. QB Jalon Daniels put up a 15-of-29 line for 199 yards and one TD while also leading the rush on 14 carries for 74 yards and another score. Tops in receiving was Emmanuel Henderson with five grabs for 65 yards and a touchdown in the losing effort for Kansas.

Iowa State Cyclones Betting Preview

Over on the Iowa State side, they kicked things off with a string of wins this year over Kansas State, South Dakota, Iowa, Arkansas State and Arizona. The Cyclones hit the skids in the next four though, losing to Cincinnati, Colorado, BYU and Arizona State in succession. In the loss to the Sun Devils 24-19 on November 1, the Cyclones gave up 14 points in the second quarter and never recovered. Iowa State posted 336 yards of offense with 21 first downs but went just 2-of-14 on third-down conversion attempts. The defense came up with three takeaways but did give up 290 yards on the ground in the losing effort.

Back on November 8 versus TCU in their most recent outing, the Cyclones were up by a field goal in the first half. Iowa State had to hang on (and score twice in the fourth) but won it 20-17 in the end. QB Rocco Becht put up 111 yards with one TD and two picks on 9-of-24 passing and Carson Hansen led the rush with 28 carries for 108 yards and a TD. Chase Sowell led the receivers with just 31 yards on four catches in the winning effort for the Cyclones.

Kansas vs Iowa State Prediction

I’ll lean toward Kansas. You could probably make a case either way here, though. The Jayhawks had a bad second half in their last matchup versus Arizona and ended up with 369 total yards, 19 first downs and 6-of-17 on third-down tries. The defense gave up 323 yards on the other side with 5.4  yards per play, 18 first downs and 5-of-13 on third downs. That makes fewer than 21 points in three of the last four games for Kansas. The one time they eclipsed that total, they won (38-21 over Oklahoma State).

As for Iowa State, they’ve been below 21 points in consecutive games. We could have a fairly low-scoring finish here, but it should be a good game to watch.
