The Cyclones got better in the second half with a 15-7 run but it wasn’t enough in a 38-30 loss. QB Rocco Becht finished on 30-of-48 passing for 314 yards and two touchdowns. Tops in rushing was Abu Sama with 18 carries for 96 yards, but Becht did score a couple of times on the ground. Brett Eskildsen was the team’s leading receiver with eight catches for 105 yards and a touchdown of his own in the loss.
Over on the Colorado side, they had a tough draw against Georgia Tech in their opener which turned into a 27-20 loss. The Buffaloes bounced back with a 31-7 win over Delaware in the next game then fell to Houston 36-20 before another win over Wyoming 37-20. In the BYU game, Colorado took a tough loss 24-21 at home. The Buffaloes held the Cougars to just 3-of-11 on third downs but also gave up 208 rush yards with 27 first downs and 6.0 yards per play.
Matched up against TCU in their latest outing, the Buffaloes went into the fourth quarter all knotted up at 14-14. Colorado was outscored 21-7 from there however, leading to a 35-21 road loss. Kaidon Salter was 18-of-29 for 217 yards, two touchdowns and three picks, while Dallan Hayden carried nine times for 61 yards as the team’s leading rusher. Omarion Miller was the top receiver in the defeat with six catches for 89 yards and a pair of scores.

Iowa State gave up 474 yards on defense with 8.0 yards per play but did pretty well on third downs (4-of-11) and recovered a fumble. The loss is a kick in the proverbial teeth though, so Iowa State will need a dominant performance this weekend to ease the sting.
As for Colorado, they were done in by four turnovers in a fairly modest offensive day during the TCU loss last weekend. The Buffaloes haven’t been scoring too badly this year though, notching at least 20 points in every game so far. Trouble is, they’ve given up 24 or more points in four of six, all four being losses.
