Over on the Boise State side, they also opened the season with a blowout road loss 34-7 to South Florida but then hit a win streak. The next three were victories over Eastern Washington, Air Force and App State, then a loss to Notre Dame. The ensuing pair were wins versus New Mexico and UNLV. In the 56-31 blowout win over UNLV at home, the Broncos gave up 21 points in the second quarter but also scored in each quarter themselves. Boise State ended up with 558 yards on offense, 9.8 yards per play on average and 21 first downs total.
Matched up against Nevada on the road last Friday, the Broncos fell behind early but ultimately held the Wolf Pack scoreless in the last three quarters. The end result was a 24-3 victory. QB Maddux Madsen finished 15-of-28 for 174 yards and a pick, while Sire Gaines topped the rush on 17 carries for 62 yards and a TD. Leading receiver Cameron Bates’ 37-yard catch was enough to top the team in the winning effort.

It was a fairly modest effort on the scoreboard however, especially considering the fact that Boise State had notched a combined 97 points over their previous two outings.
As for Fresno State, they couldn’t do much of anything last weekend at home versus a very good San Diego State squad. The Bulldogs offense mustered just 227 yards, 45 rush yards, 3.5 yards per play, 14 first downs and 5-of-16 on third-down tries alongside a couple of interceptions. The defense was good on third downs (4-of-12) and had a couple of takeaways but the 208 rushing yards allowed really wore the team down. Fresno State hasn’t eclipsed 23 points for four straight games but they’re generally keeping opposing offenses in check.
