Wake Forest and Texas Tech quarterback Mitch Griffis gets the nod, while the rest of the offense has limited returning starters. Running back TJ Engleman should get more reps, while Miami transfer Ray Ray Joseph and Marshall transfer Michael Allen are expected to play key roles. The offensive line could make or break this group. New defensive coordinator Jordon Hankins and DJ Johnson Jr. will be the face of this group after losing seven of its top eight tacklers. Endless roster turnover and hitting the portal hard. It could lead to growing pains early, but the coaching staff is well established and should be trusted at this point.

Defensively, Alabama lost its top two tacklers, but Bray Hubbard is a leader in the secondary, and Yhonzae Pierre is back after leading the Tide with 8 sacks. Alabama has one of its lowest win totals in years and is quietly losing some of its steam in the SEC. We’ll see if Alabama can thrive in a bit of an underdog role this season.

East Carolina has a brand new team full of transfers, and while the coaching staff is solid, it’s going to take time to get going. Alabama isn’t a team you find your footing against. This isn’t an unbeatable Nick Saban Crimson Tide, but there are still five-star recruits everywhere and a clear talent gap. This should be a blowout win for the Crimson Tide, and if it isn’t, it might be time to hit the panic button out of the gate. I’m going to lay the points with Alabama, but I’d love to get off the hook if possible.
