Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Betting Preview

Coastal Carolina didn’t have the greatest season in 2025, but they managed to make it to a bowl game at least. The Chanticleers logged a 6-7 overall run last year, going 5-3 in the Sun Belt. With that effort, Coastal Carolina finished behind only James Madison and Old Dominion in the East Division. After earning a trip to the Independence Bowl, Coastal Carolina ended their season with a loss to Louisiana Tech 23-14.

Moving ahead to 2026, the Chanticleers will hit the reset button under new head coach Ryan Beard. He’ll bring a brand new staff with him alongside some tempered expectations. (The Chanticleers were picked to finish in fifth place among the East Division in the preseason media poll.) The good news is that the team has some good depth on offense featuring a strong QB room and solid transfers at running back like Daelen Alexander from Rice and Jaden Allen-Hendrix from Oklahoma State.

West Virginia Mountaineers Betting Preview

Over on the West Virginia side, they had a pretty underwhelming campaign in 2025. The Mountaineers went just 4-8 overall with a 2-7 stretch among a tough Big 12. That would put West Virginia ahead of only Colorado and Oklahoma State in the standings. The team won two of their first three games but their only other victories were in consecutive weeks versus Houston and Colorado during November.

With head coach Rich Rodriguez in the second year of his second run (ninth season overall) at the helm, West Virginia will look to take a step forward. Overall the offense looks competitive, thanks to QB Mike Hawkins and star RB Cam Cook. DJ Epert should add some fireworks as a wide receiver/returner workhorse. The big question mark however, is on a revamped defense that needs to get better against the pass.

Coastal Carolina vs West Virginia Prediction

I’m going to stick with WVU I suppose. There are several bright spots for the Mountaineers this season, and if all goes well it’s not unrealistic to expect a ceiling of eight wins or so. If things don’t break West Virginia’s way however, we’re probably looking at a finish without a bowl berth. The schedule isn’t doing the team too many favors either: WVU will have to travel to Utah, TCU, Texas Tech and Iowa State this season.

As for Coastal Carolina, they’ve got their work cut out for them. That said, the lowered expectations may be beneficial to the team. One major area the team needs to improve on is quick scoring: they were outclassed in the first quarter 123-57 last year. Improvement to the 116th-ranked offense in the country would help matters immensely.
