The Central Connecticut Blue Devils and UConn Huskies meet Saturday in college football action at Pratt & Whitney Stadium. Here’s a Central Connecticut vs UConn Prediction. This article will include a Central Connecticut vs UConn Pick.

Central Connecticut Blue Devils Betting Preview

The Central Connecticut Blue Devils won seven games last season and were the NEC co-champions. Central Connecticut enters the third season under coach Adam Lechtenberg.

Offensively, Central Connecticut is in great hands with quarterback Brady Olson, wide receiver Donovan Wadley, and running back Elijah Howard. That trio is the best in the NEC and makes the Blue Devils a playoff contender in the FCS. All three of those names are some of the best playmakers in the NEC, and it makes the Blue Devils extremely dangerous.

Defensively, linebacker Malachi Wright is back after leading the team with 83 tackles. Other linebacker Jack Stoll had 7.5 tackles for loss and cornerback Christopher Jean had four interceptions and 10 pass breakups. Central Connecticut forced endless turnovers last season and despite losing key players, there’s enough production here to create another strong defense.

Central Connecticut is the class of NEC until proven otherwise and this will be a strong measuring test.

UConn Huskies Betting Preview

The UConn Huskies won nine games last season and have a chance to make a bowl game in back-to-back years for the first time since 2010. UConn enters year four under coach Jim Mora.

Quarterback Joe Fagnano returns after throwing for 1,600 yards and 20 touchdowns, and he returns his playmakers in wide receiver Skyler Bell and running back Cam Edwards. The UConn offensive line will be a work in progress as key guys left, including sixth round NFL draft pick Chase Lundt, but the skill positions are there and should lead to an explosive offense.

Defensively, UConn sees a lot of roster turnover and a defensive front especially that’s nothing but new faces. Linebacker Donovan Branch returns after 24 tackles and four tackles for loss last season. The secondary should be the strength with guys such as Cam Chadwick and D’Mon Brinson back. UConn also gets Penn State transfer Tyrece Mills, who was once a three-star recruit. There’s a lot of pressure on second-year coordinator Matt Brock to replace so many guys.

It’s going to be interesting to see how UConn responds after a surprise season. Nobody will be taking the Huskies lightly this season and expectations have changed.

Central Connecticut vs UConn Prediction

UConn is coming off a solid season and appears to be heading in the right direction. The Huskies should be big favorites for this spot, but we’re probably going to see an inflated line because of the names. Central Connecticut is the team to beat in the NEC and is loaded offensively. If UConn takes a week or two to figure things out defensively, this has a chance to get appealing. This is also a chance for Central Connecticut to make a statement to the big school in the state. This could be a sneaky game worth keeping an eye on. Central Connecticut can score. Give me the points.
