A summary that ties it all together and produces a favorable betting outcome for the Bowling Green vs Eastern Michigan game
The Falcons kicked things off on a 2-2 run over their first four games, beating Lafayette and Liberty along with losses to tough teams in Cincinnati and Louisville. Bowling Green would beat Toledo in the next quartet but otherwise fell versus Ohio, Central Michigan and Kent State. In the 24-21 loss to the Flashes, the Falcons posted 379 yards, 207 rush yards and a nice 12-of-18 on third-down conversion attempts but still couldn’t pull off the victory.
In their latest appearance versus Buffalo on Saturday, Bowling Green fell back into the loss column again—and it wasn’t close. The Falcons were down 21-0 by the end of the first half and ended up mustering only a field goal in a 28-3 defeat. QB Drew Pyne finished with only 52 yards on 7-of-16 passing and lead rusher Austyn Dendy had 18 carries for 62 yards. Jyrin Johnson was the team’s top receiver with five catches for 69 yards in the defeat.
Over on the Eagles’ side, they didn’t start out the season very well, taking losses in each of their first three games to Texas State, LIU and Kentucky. Eastern Michigan would get their first win of the year over Louisiana then fell versus Central Michigan, Buffalo and Miami-Ohio in the next four games (with a win over Northern Illinois). In the loss to the RedHawks, the Eagles gave up 454 yards total, 295 rush yards, 23 first downs and 11-of-15 on third-down tries.
In their last matchup versus Ohio on October 25, the Eagles held a 14-7 edge after the first quarter. Eastern Michigan was outscored 21-7 in the second half however, resulting in an eventual 28-21 loss in the end. QB Noah Kim finished 21-of-30 for 259 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while leading rusher Dontae McMillan added 10 rushes for 49 yards. Tops in receiving was Nick Devereaux with five catches for 121 yards and two scores.
I’m going to try Bowling Green here, but I’m probably staying away from it in reality. The Falcons didn’t look good versus Buffalo in their latest outing. The offense notched just 216 total yards, 3.0 yards per play, 15 first downs, two turnovers and 4-of-16 on third-down tries. The defense gave up 282 total yards with 10 first downs and held strong on thirds with 3-of-13 allowed, but it wasn’t nearly enough to keep the game close. Bowling Green has been below seven points in two of their last three games so the offense really needs a proverbial shot in the arm—not to mention a quick start—if they’re going to pull anything off here.
As for the Eagles, they’ve been scoring fairly well in their last three losses but they’ve also been giving up quite a bit on the other side. Bowling Green can bag a cover here, but they’ve got to score. That proposition is easier said than done however, so I’m not touching this one.
