Boston College Eagles Betting Preview

The Eagles didn’t have any issues in a blowout win over Fordham in their opener, then took a tough two-point loss to Michigan State. The losses continued to pile up from there as Boston College fell versus Samford, California, Pittsburgh and Clemson. In the loss to the Tigers, the Eagles gave up 34 points in the first half—including 24 in the second quarter alone. The Boston College offense accounted for just 221 yards (136 passing) and 15 first downs along the way in the losing effort as well.

Matched up against UConn last weekend, the Eagles gave up points in all four quarters—including double-digits in the second and third—along the way to a 38-23 loss. QB Grayson James went 16-of-28 for 204 yards and a pair of TDs, while Jordan McDonald had 24 totes for a team-high 123 yards in the defeat. Leading receiver Lewis Bond added 69 yards off five receptions as well.

Louisville Cardinals Betting Preview

Over on the Louisville side, they were able to open up the season with a nice four-game win streak. Those victories came in succession versus Eastern Kentucky, James Madison, Bowling Green and Pittsburgh. The Cardinals would record their first loss 30-27 in overtime during a tough home defeat at the hands of Virginia. In that one Louisville posted just 54 rushing yards and went 7-of-17 on third-down conversion attempts alongside a pair of turnovers. The defense gave up 237 yards and 14 first downs on the other side in the defeat.

In their latest outing last Friday versus Miami, Louisville played their best game of the season. The Cardinals jumped out to a 14-7 lead after the first quarter and were able to hang on for a 24-21 win in the end. QB Miller Moss finished 23-of-37 for 248 yards and two scores while also rushing for a TD. Isaac Brown led the rush with 15 totes for 113 yards and Chris Bell caught nine balls for 136 yards and both scores in a highlight-reel day.

Boston College vs Louisville Prediction

I’ll lean toward Louisville—so long as they can avoid the proverbial “big-win hangover,” that is. The Cards’ offense did just enough to get the big upset road victory over Miami on Friday, notching 367 total yards, 5.4 yards per play, 21 first downs and 5-of-14 on third-down tries. The defense really paved the way though, holding the Hurricanes to just 15 first downs and 5-of-12 on third-down attempts alongside four takeaways. The nine Miami penalties didn’t hurt matters, either. Louisville is cooking this year with just the one OT loss to a very good Virginia team on the card. The Cardinals have scored 24 or more points in all six games as well.

As for Boston College, they couldn’t keep pace with a pretty good UConn team last weekend despite the defense giving up just 93 rush yards and 4-of-10 on third downs. The Eagles otherwise had trouble with the pass (362 yards), resulting in 7.8 yards per play. If Louisville can get their offense going quickly this weekend the Cards should be fine.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Louisville Cardinals -23.5
