The Raiders were able to eke by Abilene Christian 52-51 in overtime during their opener, then lost to Washington State in game two. After that came four straight wins over North Texas, Arizona State, Cincinnati, and Arizona before another loss 59-35 versus Baylor.
In last Saturday’s game versus TCU, the Raiders were outscored 14-3 in the final quarter for a tough loss of 35-34 in the end. Behren Morton and Will Hammond combined for 258 passing yards and one TD, while Tahj Brooks had 30 carries for 121 yards and a score.

Over on the Iowa State side, they’ve had a couple of close games but no blemishes so far. The wins have come versus North Dakota, Iowa (20-19), Arkansas State, Houston, Baylor, West Virginia, and UCF (38-35) for a perfect 7-0 run.

Texas Tech vs Iowa State Prediction
I’ll lean toward the Cyclones I suppose. Iowa State had some trouble dispatching a plucky UCF team in their last outing, due mostly the the 354 rush yards (416 total) surrendered on defense. The Cyclones did pretty well otherwise, giving up just 14 first downs and 3-of-12 on third-down tries. On offense, the two picks and 6-of-19 on third downs were the main areas of concern but all things considered, it wasn’t a bad effort.
As for Texas Tech, last weekend they suffered a stunning loss against a plucky TCU team which will be hard to bounce back from. The Raiders notched 438 total yards (258 passing) in that one along with 25 first downs and a couple of lost fumbles. The defense came up with three takeaways but also gave up 461 yards (344 passing) and 7.8 yards per play. Iowa State should have some good opportunities to move the chains here, and I like the Cyclones to power out the cover.
