The Kent State Golden Flashes and the Penn State Nittany Lions meet in week 4 college football action from Beaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Kent State vs. Penn State prediction.
Kent State Recap
The Kent State Golden Flashes will try to spring the upset of the century for their first win of the season after ending up on the wrong end of a 71-0 loss at the hands of Tennessee last time out. After this game, the Golden Flashes will go back home and take on Eastern Michigan in their MAC conference opener.
Golden Flashes Have No Shine Right Now
Devin Kargman has thrown for 432 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions on 55.6% passing while Ky Thomas has rushed for 89 yards on the ground. Luke Floriea has a team-high 15 receptions for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns while Chrishon McCray has 121 receiving yards and 2 TD grabs of his own on the year. On defense, Rocco Nicholl leads Kent State with 24 total tackles while Kameron Olds has a team-high 3 sacks. Alex Branch is also responsible for the lone INT from the Kent State defense this season.
Penn State Recap
The Penn State Nittany Lions will try to keep the train running after picking up a 34-27 win over Bowling Green before their bye week last week, sitting at 2-0 coming into this game. After this matchup, Penn State will welcome Illinois to town for their conference opener.
Nittany Lions Survive Scare And Hope It’s In The Past
Drew Allar has thrown for 420 yards, 5 touchdowns, and an interception on 64.9% passing while Nicholas Singleton has rushed for 233 yards and 2 touchdowns and Kaytron Allen has 121 rushing yards. Tyler Warren leads Penn State’s receiving group with 11 grabs for 176 yards while Harrison Wallace III has 117 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. On defense, Jaylen Reed has a team-high 19 total tackles while Kevin Winston Jr. has a team-high 8 solo tackles. As a team, Penn State has combined for 2 sacks and 3 interceptions as well on the year.
Why the Penn State Nittany Lions will win
- Penn State has won each of its last 26 games against non-conference opponents at Beaver Stadium.
- Kent State has lost each of its last 23 road games in September.
- Kent State has failed to cover the spread in each of its last seven road games.
- Penn State has covered the spread in 14 of its last 16 games against non-AP-ranked teams.
Kent State vs. Penn State Prediction
I’m on the over here. This is a massive number and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Penn State covered, but there’s always the concern of a backdoor cover and look-ahead with Penn State having their conference opener next week. That being said, the Golden Flashes have allowed 126 points in two games against FBS opponents this year and this could be a spot where Penn State just opens it up. James Franklin is not a coach that takes his foot off of the gas. I think we’re headed for points here, it’s just a matter of if Kent State wants to contribute to the cause. Give me the over.
