Pitt's Offense Put on a Show

Pitt faced off against Kent State in the first game and the offense was impressive putting up 55 points, but the defense left some to be desired as they gave up 24 points. The offense has no concerns and Eli Holstein had an impressive game. He completed 30 of his 40 passes for 336 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. The running game was also wild and Desmond Reid rushed 14 times for 145 yards and a touchdown. 

Wide receiver Kenny Johnson also put on a show and finished with 14 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown. The defense was awful, though, and giving up 24 points to Kent State is a bit excusable. If they want to find success going forward, they are going to need the defense to be a whole lot better. They can’t expect to win games if they are giving up 24 points to teams like Kent State. Pittsburgh will meet West Virginia after this game.

Cincinnati Also Needs to Improve

Cincinnati in the first game faced off against Towson and they weren’t exactly dominant. Cincinnati scored 38 points but the defense gave up 20 points and the defense also needs to improve. At the end of the first quarter, they were up 21-3 but they did take their foot off the gas a little bit as the game went on. Under center for Cincinnati is Brendan Sorsby who completed 22 of his 31 passes for 383 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He is playing with a ton of confidence right now. Evan Pryor only rushed for times but he had a huge game putting up 105 yards and a touchdown. Sorsby also found the end zone twice on the ground. 

On defense, they struggled against the pass and they allowed Carlos Davis to throw for 244 yards and two touchdowns. The run game also wasn’t exactly dominant either and that will need to be better. Cincy will face Miami (OH) and Houston following this one.

Pitt vs Cincinnati Prediction

This game is going to be a shootout. These are both offenses that found success in the first game led by solid to good quarterback play, but the defense was awful. Both of the defenses are going to struggle to slow down the opposing defense. Brendan Sorsby especially is going to have a huge game for Cincinnati and that will be enough for this game to end up well over the total. Back the over to cash here with ease.
