Merrimack Struggled in the First Game
Merrimack really struggled in the first game against the Air Force Falcons. Merrimack struggled to get the offense going and the first points they scored were in the 4th quarter. The defense wasn’t awful giving up 21 points Under center for Merrimack was Malakai Anthony and he completed 14 of his 21 passes for 74 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Ayden Pereria also came in late and completed 3 of his 9 passes. Jermaine Corbett did have a strong game catching eight passes for 59 yards.
This is a team that hasn’t been good at pushing the ball down the field. On defense, they didn’t actually play all that bad but the offense just didn’t score enough to give them a chance.
UConn Blown Out in First Game
UConn faced off against Maryland in the first game and it was an ugly one. The offense scored seven points but the defense gave up 50 points and that led to the defeat. Nick Evars and Joe Fagnano both played under center and Fagnano played better. He completed 8 of his 16 passes for 149 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. UConn didn’t get a whole lot going with the run game. Durell Robinson was the top rusher finishing with seven carries for 34 yards and zero touchdowns.
On defense, they gave up the 50 points and they couldn’t slow down anything. They allowed Billy Edwards Jr to throw for 311 yards and two touchdowns. In this game, they are going to need the defense to be a whole lot better. If the defense struggles in this game, it’s going to be a very long game.
Merrimack vs UConn Prediction
There are better games on the board to bet, but if you want to play this game, the play is with Uconn. The Huskies' defense was so bad in the last game, and I don’t trust them to be better here magically. Even though Merrimack struggled to move the ball in the first game the same won’t be the case here. Merrimack’s offense is going to find success and they are going to do enough to cover the spread here.
