The Binghamton Bearcats come into the 2024-25 season hoping to build on a decent 2023-24 season, one where the Bearcats finished 15-15 on the year, including 7-9 in conference play in the America East. Binghamton lost their quarterfinal in the Am-East tournament to New Hampshire to end their season. It’s going to be interesting to see if Binghamton can replace some of their best players from last year’s squad, like Armon Harries, Symir Torrence and Tariq Balogun, but Tymu Chenery is back after putting up almost 15 PPG and 5 RPG last year and Nehemiah Benson added 10.4 PPG and 4.3 RPG. Jackson Benigni transfers in from Stonehill after logging 11.3 PPG last year and Ben Callahan-Gold had 16 PPG and 6.1 RPG in D-III last season. There’s plenty of talent, experience and a nice combination of returning continuity to think that Binghamton can compete, it’s just a matter of willing it into fruition for the Bearcats.

The Penn State Nittany Lions come into the 2024-25 campaign looking to rebound in year two under Mike Rhoades, finishing 16-17 overall including 9-11 in Big Ten conference play. The Nittany Lions knocked off Michigan in the first round before bowing out to Indiana in the second round, ending their season. Ace Baldwin Jr. is the top returning Penn State talent, averaging 14.2 PPG and 6 APG as the lead guard last season, while a lot of the other rotational pieces return as well. The biggest addition was Yanic Konan Niederhauser from NIU as a 7-footer that averaged over two blocks per game last season in just under 20 minutes per game that will help Penn State with their interior defense. Only time will tell if Penn State will have enough going for them to take another step under Rhoades, or if this is just another season in Purgatory for the Nittany Lions.

• Penn State has won 14 of its last 15 games against non-Conference opponents at Bryce Jordan Center.
• Binghamton has lost 10 of its last 12 road games against non-Conference opponents.

Binghamton vs. Penn State Prediction

I’m on Penn State here. This is a big number for the Nittany Lions, but I think Penn State’s issues are going to come up once we hit Big Ten play, and not against a Binghamton team that was really poor offensively last season. The Nittany Lions aren’t necessarily bad, they’re just not great in comparison to the rest of the Big Ten. However starting here, I think Penn State can drum up enough to bag a win and cover here.
