Coco Gauff is coming off a spectacular win over Laura Siegemund in the quarterfinal, where she only dropped three games in the match. Gauff took an hour and 26 minutes to clinch a 6-3, 6-0 win that takes her to a second semifinal at the Wuhan Open.

Gauff did not account for any aces but hit 6 double faults, a figure she will hope to trim significantly in the semis. She landed 64% of first serves in play and won 64% of first serve points (23/36). Gauff won 65% of second serve points (13/20) and saved three of four break points. Gauff is 7-1 in this year’s Asian swing, with her only defeat being against Anisimova in Beijing. She is 45-14 for the season and is chasing her second title after winning the French Open in June. 

Jasmine Paolini pulled off a major upset in the quarterfinal, beating World No. 2 Iga Swiatek in straight sets. It was Paolini’s first career win over Swiatek. She had lost all six meetings prior to Friday and won just one set.

But the Italian savored her best tennis for this contest in Wuhan, where she not only beat Swiatek, but did so with a near-perfect performance. Paolini took the first set 6-1 in under half an hour, breaking Swiatek’s serve three times. While Swiatek briefly tried to come back by breaking Paolini’s serve early in the second set, the Italian was just on another level and won four of the next five games.
