Elena Rybakina vs Mirra Andreeva Preview
Elena Rybakina won a rollercoaster match against Leylah Fernandez in the semifinals. The match took three hours and featured two dramatic tiebreaks and two match point saves before Rybakina prevailed. Fernandez played a brilliant match and deservedly won the first set, which she led 5-3, but needed six set points to clinch it, and did not in a tiebreak. The Canadian broke Rybakina midway through the second set and was 4-2 up. But Rybakina reeled off four games in a row to turn it around and force a deciding set. Fernandez once more had the upper hand and was winning the majority of the longer rallies. She broke again and served for the match at 5-4, but wasted a match point.
Rybakina broke back and took the set into another tiebreak. Fernandez held her second match point at 6-5, but against serve. Rybakina saved it and won two more points to win the match. Rybakina hit 7 aces and 8 double faults in the victory. She won 73% of first serve points (59/81) and saved 11 of 14 break points in the match. Rybakina picked up her 23rd win of the season.
Mirra Andreeva defeated two-time Stuttgart champion Iga Swiatek in three sets to reach the semifinals in this tournament for the first time. The match took 28 games to decide. Andreeva produced her own comeback in the match to down the World No. 4 for the third time and extend her winning record against the Pole. Andreeva trailed by a break in the final set, but recovered to beat Swiatek 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in two and a half hours.
In the victory, Andreeva hit 4 aces and 5 double faults. Andreeva landed 61% of first serves in play and won 58% of first serve points (37/64).
