Taylor Fritz and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina meet in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Washington Open. The match is scheduled for Friday, July 25. Here’s our Taylor Fritz vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina prediction. This preview will also include a Taylor Fritz vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina pick.
Taylor Fritz vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Preview
Taylor Fritz is making his fifth appearance in Washington, D.C. This is his first visit since 2023, when he delivered his best result in this ATP 500 tournament, losing a semifinal to Tallon Griekspoor. Fritz is the top seed this week and lived up to the billing as the favorite for the title. The World No. 4 brushed aside Aleksandar Vukic in straight sets to get his campaign up and running. Fritz lost five games in a one-hour workout, planting 28 winners and 14 unforced errors. He won 88% of first serve points (29/33) and 60% of second serve points (9/15). His serve was broken once in the match.
In the last 16, Fritz defeated Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 42 minutes. Fritz hit 24 winners, but also accounted for 26 unforced errors. That included 10 aces and two double faults. Fritz landed 64% of first serves in play and won 95% of first serve points (37/39). He won 32% of second serve points (7/22) and saved all four break points he faced. He now has a 16-6 record on hard courts this season and will be seeking a first semifinal on the surface since Miami, when he lost to Czech teenager Jakub Mensik.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is certainly enjoying his time in the United States. The flamboyant Spaniard is putting together another deep run on US soil. Earlier this year, he reached the finals of the Delray Beach Open and was one point away from taking home the title. He is looking to atone for those missed match points this week as he breezed into his first quarterfinal in Washington at the Citi Open.
Davidovich Fokina started the week with a comfortable straight-sets win against countryman Jaume Munar. He only dropped six games and saved five of six break points on his serve. He finished the match with 14 winners to 29 unforced errors.
In the last 16, Davidovich Fokina saw off the talented and tricky Next Gen star Learner Tien 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and 11 minutes. Davidovich Fokina accounted for 14 winners and 19 unforced errors. He hit two aces and one double fault. Davidovich Fokina landed 56% of first serves in play and won 74% of first serve points (20/27). He won 67% of second serve points (14/21) and saved the one break point he faced in the match. He is 16-9 on hard courts and can reach his third semifinal of the season. This is officially his best run in Washington.
Taylor Fritz vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head-To-Head
Fritz and Davidovich Fokina have met seven times on tour, with the American holding a slender 4-3 advantage. Fritz got the better of the Spaniard at Wimbledon en route to the second week.
Taylor Fritz vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Prediction
Fritz is odds-on here to pick up a third straight win over Davidovich Fokina, but the head-to-head between them is pretty interesting. Davidovich Fokina ended Fritz’s two-year reign in Delray, and the Spaniard has averaged at least one set in each of their three meetings in 2025 (that includes his two defeats on grass in Eastbourne and Wimbledon). I don’t necessarily think he walks away with a win here, but there’s decent value with him taking at least a set. His court speed and ability to flip momentum are right up there with some of the best in men’s tennis, and when he’s locked in, he can simply go toe-to-toe with just about anybody. So, we’re cashing in that set handicap ticket on Fokina.
