Casper Ruud reached the Stockholm Open quarterfinals for a second time. The Norwegian defeated former US Open champion Marin Cilic in straight sets to begin his campaign this week with a victory. The match took 23 games to decide and lasted an hour and 50 minutes.

Cilic led for most of the first set, and was a break up at 4-2, but could not consolidate that advantage in the seventh game as Ruud broke back. The first set was settled in a tiebreak where Ruud dominated from start to finish and won it 7-2. The second set stayed on serve until the 10th and final game, when Ruud broke Cilic’s serve to wrap up a 7-6, 6-4 victory.

Sebastian Korda is making his debut in Stockholm this week and the American World No. 60 secured his quarterfinal spot with a three-set win over Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak. Korda and Majchrzak exchanged the first two sets with an identical score of 6-4.  The third set was extremely tight as neither player dropped serve until the 11th game when Korda struck and converted one of two break points. Korda then held to 15 in the next to complete the hard-fought victory in two and a half hours.

Korda hit 10 aces and 5 double faults in the match. He landed 55% of first serves in play and won 82% of first serve points (46/56). Korda won 49% of second serve points (22/45) and saved nine of 10 break points. Korda is seeking his third semifinal of the season.
