Laura Samson is coming off a three-set win in the first round in Quito, beating Argentina’s Jasmin Ortenzi in precisely two hours. Samson dropped the first set 3-6, but played some great tennis from there on, managing to level the match at one-set all with a late break in the 10th game of the second set.

I think Samson is a live underdog here. Samson is certainly a player who can take advantage of that with first-strike returns. This could easily go to three and Samson’s fresher legs give her the edge.
