Third seed Elena Rybakina will face Dayana Yastremska in the second round of the 2025 Ningbo Open on Thursday, October 16. Here’s our Elena Rybakina vs Dayana Yastremska prediction. This preview will also include an Elena Rybakina vs Dayana Yastremska pick.

Elena Rybakina vs Dayana Yastremska Preview

Elena Rybakina is the third seed in Ningbo. She is making her debut at the event. Rybakina is bidding to qualify for the WTA Finals with just two spots remaining and she is one of three contenders this week. Rybakina is playing in her third tournament at this year’s Asian swing. She reached the third round of Beijing, where she surprisingly lost to Eva Lys. And this past week, Rybakina lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals of the Wuhan Open.

Rybakina has compiled 48 wins and 19 losses this season. The Kazakh also returned to the winner’s podium after capturing the WTA 500 in Strasbourg during the clay season. She is back in the world’s top 10. Rybakina has won 31 matches on hard courts in 2025, possessing one of the best records on the surface despite not winning a single title on it.

Dayana Yastremska won her opening match at the Ningbo Open, where she is taking part for the first time. The Ukrainian beat Canadian sensation Victoria Mboko in straight sets. The match took 22 gams to decide and lasted an hour and 52 minutes.

In the victory, Yastremska hit 2 aces and 9 double faults. Yastremska landed 55% of first serves in play and won 54% of first serve points (26/48). She won 55% of second serve points (22/40) and converted four of nine break points. This was her 12th win on hard courts this season, but she hasn’t been to a quarterfinal since Singapore in January.

Elena Rybakina vs Dayana Yastremska Head-To-Head

Rybakina beat Yastremska in two WTA matches before this.

Elena Rybakina vs Dayana Yastremska Prediction

While Rybakina should easily dominate on serve, I also expect her to have a lot of success on the return. Yastremska’s serve is shaky and she coughs up a high number of double faults. The Ukrainian is a hard hitter off the ground and will look to capitalize on that in the shorter exchanges from the baseline. It will probably go to three if Rybakina does not take her chances early on, but she’s still a safer pick to win outright.

Nur Said's Pick: Elena Rybakina in three sets
